Advice needed!

Question

Hello! I was wondering what the best bang for your buck hotel is for visiting DC to go to a game? Planning on coming into town for the Kraken game in March, but wanted to book a room now. Any help is appreciated!

Looking to Arlington may be a little cheaper. Then you can just metro into game.

Stayed at the Moxy recently and went to the game. Has a modern/hipster vibe to it and got two free drink vouchers. Room was small but all we needed for the night.

I've made the Moxy our regular place to stay after using Fairfield Inn for years. I really like the Moxy and rates are usually palatable.

Do not stay at the Days Inn in Van Ness.

Any hotel downtown near the arena will be fine, but as someone else pointed out, Arlington will likely be cheaper.

The biggest thing that will crush your soul will be the surprise (high) valet fees at most hotels really close to the stadium. Recommend exploring the Metro routes and finding somewhere with free parking... that you can hop on the train right to the game (the Gallery Place stop is basically at the stadium entrance).

Indeed. I'm a Marriott points nerd and go back and forth between their Key Bridge (well, before it closed), Crystal Gateway, and Metro Center hotels when I take one of the kids to games. The valet fees are/were $25, $39, and $54 respectively. We always park at a friend's house in Alexandria and Metro in to the hotel, then walk/Metro everywhere. We always bundle a day or two of sightseeing and friend visits so a three-day Metro pass for each of us adds up to less than two day's hotel parking.

Fun fact: That Key Bridge Marriott was the second hotel they built and was the oldest operating one in the company before it shut down for redevelopment.

Stay outside the city and metro in

Last game we stayed in an Airbnb in Alexandria and it was a 2 min walk to the King St metro. It was awesome! There’s def cheaper places to stay than Alexandria but we hadn’t stayed there before and we were going to a Cowboys/Washington game the next day and it was so much closer than staying elsewhere in the Virginia DC area. But def look outside of DC on the metro lines!

None of the above.

Hotwire. Filter your search using the map to NW DC and four or five stars. I’ve never paid more than $120 and I’ve gotten rooms at really nice places including the Four Seasons Georgetown.

If you know how to use Google image search, many of the hotels on Hotwire now use actual room pictures so you can search the image, find out the actual hotel and check the rate directly on their website.

One good thing about living in town is that I can walk to Cap One in less than an hour or catch an Uber for about $15 one way.
