My obligatory winter picture. There were so many birds on the tree outside my apartment.

It's nice to see a picture of nature and not more buildings.

This looks like the Christmas card my grandmother sent me from Ohio. Great pic!

A bright red cardinal surprised me as I was walking home from taking photos in a nearby forest. Couldn't get a good picture of it before it flew away. This is gorgeous!

Absolutely perfect. This is now my background and it's a good day.

Thank you great camera work! Texas Cedar! Cardinals! They just go together!

Put some seed out to help keep them warm.

I keep a bird feeder out there already.

Nice!

This is probably a stupid question but how do seeds keep them warm?

Food provides calories.

A calorie is measurement of energy.

Burning calories creates heat.

We keep a feeder in the backyard and I kid you not they went through 5 lbs yesterday.

I believe it. I had about 8 birds on my patio at once and squirrels too.

So beautiful. My dogs chase the birds away.

I had a Red-Bellied Woodpecker visit my suet feeder today. Sorry, no pics... to cold to go outside!

Those critters are not used to this kind of weather. As happened last year, many will freeze to death.

Cardinals are actually very resilient and handle winters with relative ease. That’s why you’ll find them as far north as Maine, and the birds don’t migrate either.

Lol... no. With this logic the bird population in Dallas would be wiped out yearly.

I would see cardinals in the winter in Ohio. I think they can handle a couple days of Texas cold

The Cardinal is Ohio's state bird. This dude is in his natural habitat looking for a mate.
