Dumb question: how do you go to the gym when it’s cold?

Yeah, I know. But I‘ve recently moved to the UK and this is my first time living in a properly cold place (relatively speaking) and I can’t work out a semi-comfortable way to walk to the gym.

Like, do I go with minimal layers and freeze the whole way there? Or put on the puffy coats that just don’t fit into the gym lockers?

Send help!

Just wear a puffy coat and leave it in the changing room, or keep it next to your equipment. I think you're overthinking it

Wear coat on walk to gym, when in gym remove coat. You will soon learn this coat technique can be used in most heated buildings.

Get a thinner coat? I hate to say it but it's barely been cold this winter. If it's so bad you're having to wear the thickest coat out there just to step outside to go to the gym, that ain't a good sign.

Yeah it’s been ridiculously warm and mild so far

Microfleece & a thin jacket. Trapping air between thin layers will work like a puffy jacket, check your local hiking shop, plenty of options designed to pack down small for a backpack so should be ok to fit in a locker

Get a puffy coat that compresses into a little bag. Problem solved. Or just get a chunky jumper.

Or thermals.

BTW, this made me giggle, have been on about how warm it is today 😂

You can do extra cardio and run to and from the gym :)

As my grandad says lots of layers are better than one big layer

I just put on a fleece and cycle there really fast to minimise my time outside.

I used to bring a puffy coat and wear leg warmers but couldn't be bothered with that after a while.

Why don't you jog on the way to the gym? Thats half your warm up done and you won't be cold

How tiny are the gym lockers that they don’t fit a coat? I generally wear a hoodie and/or a coat on top of my normal gym clothes depending on how cold it is. I normally end up not wearing them home though since I’m boiling from my workout lol

Jumper and a wind breaker over the top. Tracksuit bottoms over shorts. Gloves, hat optional. All easily fold into a standard backpack. Job done.

I just braced it

Minimal layers and walk/run there. Easy.

This is a fucking stupid question.

Same as I do in the summer. My swim dress isn't normally suitable for the carpark.

That said layers are good to warm you up and pop in the locker.
