[Help]

tldr; New Magnius/Modius + Sundara and Hart Cables. Left Channel no sound. No hum no hiss, no response. Help?

Waited nearly 11 weeks to get my Magnious/Modious stack. This is my first time setting anything like this up. Did my research, and purchased the proper cables, and I have no sound in my L channel. I'm unsure how to troubleshoot this in order to find out if it's the schiit stack or the Sundaras. (I tested the cables the Sundaras came with, and also the after-market ones, as well as swapped the balanced XLR cables in the back. Same issue, no sound in my L channel)

I'm unsure what I'm doing wrong though, and I don't quite know my way around. I also installed Equalizer APO + Peace GUI before I even tested the sound of the headphones lmao.

Windows 10 says the stack is set to stereo. I've played with the inputs and unplugged/replugged.

Did I miss anything? Thanks.

Edit: fixed! My L channel cord wasn’t plugged into the sundar as all the way lmao

First disable or uninstall the Equalizer and Peace. Plug the Sundara with its stock cable into your computer. Make sure the headphone out on the computer is selected as Default. Play music/YouTube. Is the Left channel working? If not go the Sound Control Panel and check the settings for the selected output device. If the settings are correct (levels, balance, default format, etc.) then the Sundara may be faulty. Swap the cable left and right on the headphone, does the problem move to the right channel? If so the stock cable is bad. If not then the Sundara's left jack may be bad.

If the Sundara is OK then

Second wire the line level out on the computer or a phone to the Magnius's RCA In with a 3.5 to RCA cable. Press In the Input select button on the Magnius. Plug in the Sundaras into the Single Ended jack. Play music on computer/phone. Does the Left channel work? If not and having established the computers 3.5mm output jack is working then the Magnius is defective. Contact Schiit.

If the Sundara and the Magnius are OK then

Third plug in the Modius into the computer via USB, connect the Modius's RCA Out to the respective Magnius RCA In (get a RCA to RCA male cable, their always useful). Set up the Modius in the computer's Sound Control Panel and select it as the default. Plug the Sundaras with stock cable into the single ended output of the Magnius. Does it still work? If not the Modius is defective. Contact Schiit. If it does work then replace the RCA with the XLR interconnects and check if the Magnius works from the Single Ended jack. Does it still work? If not then the XLR output on the Modius or the Input on the Magnius are defective. So, keep the XLRs on the Modius the same and swap the channels on the Magnius input. Does the problem move with the swap. If so the Modius is defective. If not the Magnius is defective. Contact Schiit accordingly.

If it all works so far then

Forth to test the Magnius's XLR output you need a good balanced cable, if not then the Hart cable may be the problem. Does it come with a 6.5 or 3.5 adapter or just the 4pin XLR adapter? Either swap out the adapter end with the 6.5 plug or order one from Hart. Could also get a cheap balanced cable off Amazon such as Fantasia Balanced for Hifiman. If the Hart works with a 6.5 adapter then the XLR adapter is the problem. It it works with another balanced cable the the Hart is bad. Contact Hart.

Stock cables every one should have laying around: 3foot RCA to RCA male cable, 3.5 male to RCA male cable, 3.5 to 3.5 male cable, 3.5 female to 6.5 male adapter and its reverse, extra IEC 3-wire power cable, USB 2.0 to everything else, same for USB 3.0.

That it for a quick guide.

Some one should sticky this as a general answer for my new stack isn't working. This basically what I had to do with my first one when I lost sound.

It might not be a complete tutorial, but it does show you have to start from the input and work your way systematically to the output. Test the simple stuff first. Takes forever.

Also live a long time, buy a lot of gear, never throw anything out, get a bigger closet. Build that junk box of cables, adapter, power bricks, converters, etc.
