How to make the most of your jetpack: Fall Recovery

Ugh, these weird physics issues irritate me to no end. It should work exactly like it does (or would, theoretically) in real life, I don't see why that's so difficult to do.
Same goes for the inheritance of projectiles. Everyone seems fine with the fact that stuff only has 50% inheritance, but I have to say it feels extremely weird. They should really change that to 100% inheritance.
Could you explain "inheritance" to me like I'm an 8 year old? I don't know what you mean.
Thanks! That makes a lot of sense.
I now feel totally discouraged about my ability to ever be effective at this game though. x.x
They should really change that to 100% inheritance.
Hi Rez's response to this question was basically "Fuck you, don't tell us how to make our game. We know what's best."
It never was a question, it was demanding whining from a bunch of T1+2 vets on HiRez's forums. And they never said "Fuck you, we know what's best", they said they tried it and it didn't work as well as 50% in their opinions.
Well, what they actually said was that they tested 100% inheritance and that it felt really bad.
Whoa. So this means any time I'm jetting straight up, I could be getting more speed by holding forward? How odd.
You know looking back... those jets straight upwards always did seem slow... Excellent discovery/post.
It's worth noting that you will not be able to recover from a fall if you are going at more than 72km/h in any direction, since the jets stop being jets at that point.
It's easy to try this out: Hold the ski button so you see how fast you are going. Fall down. Hit jets when you reach 72. Notice that you will just continue to accelerate downwards.
Conversion of downard gravitatata movement into a different planar field movement quadrant by use of applied localized external rocketatata underass, and back thrusting units.
Very good find, thanks.
When I first started playing the game I saw a video where a guy suggested rocking between forward and back moderatly quick to get the most upward thrust. I don't know if that's better than this. Science must be done!
If I knew this, I might have avoided like 50 deaths in the generator pit.
It's the most agonizing feeling to run out of juice just when you barely touch the edge.

Does this work if you push back/strafe, or is it only a bonus of pushing forward?
T:A physics are wonky. Nostalgic goggles are on.
This post just made me realize that I intuitively knew this and did this without actually being conscious of it.
Weird.
So when your jetpack is activated it burns energy at an set rate, no matter if you're only using one thruster for up or if you combine it with the forward thruster? Is there a thruster for each direction?
Does this mean I should combine forward and strafe at the same for even more boost like we're playing Goldeneye 64 or something?
For the record, this isn't me, but rather something I found on the hi-rez forums and thought was interesting.
The actual thrust numbers can be found here
