Was about to be furious, then I saw he plays right back. As much as I like Dorsey I don’t think he’s the answer there and this was easily our biggest area of need now that striker has been resolved.
Get Vera a green card and this goes from a decent signing to a potentially great one.
Guess Vera won't be getting a green card then.
So I was ready to blow up when I first saw this. I mean spending another International roster slot on another LB when are already using up a International spot on a LB, how dumb is that. But then I start reading the comments and seeing that the guy can play RB too and while I still don't like using another International roster slot on another outside back (a position second only to keeper in the US's ability to develop not just Quality but Quantity in) ... Anything that pushes Valentin further down the bench is a positive.
So in the grand scheme of things.... meh. Especially if this is one of the two signings Pat and Paulo have been telling us to wait. Cause at best this is underwhelming.
(Pretty sure we aren't using an int'l spot on left back fyi. Lundy has a green card I believe.)
(but otherwise this is dead on. how I feel!)
He has had one for at least 2 years now.

Weird one but okay I guess. Don't like losing the int'l spot.
Someone brought up a great point that if they’re using an intl spot on a regular roster guy then green cards must be on the way for certain players
One would hope. I am guessing this is the “before the season starts” guy. Was hopi g for a bigger splash, but we all said that we needed a new RB.
did not have a non-dp non-u22-intiative int'l on my bingo card.
Int’l spot is a loss here for sure, but with no transfer fee it’s not going complicate other acquisitions if we really are trying to make them.
You must be new to the dynamo. New owner or not, they don’t seem to spend big
Gonna save this comment for later
I would love for them to spend smart money on players. That would bring me much joy. I’m reserving any sort of judgement about the new owners intent at least for another year. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Though TFC seemed to become a league great overnight, things tend to change slowly over time. Barely making the playoffs would be considered a huge win with me. Big leaps forward can be achieved through small steps
mls has shown time and time and time and time again that successful rebuilds occur in a single offseason in this league
Agreed, too many fans fail to see how the Dynamo have been building for years behind the scenes. Next year we will sign another U22 player to bring excitement, the year after we get a new coach so we wait another year, and then the year after we get a new GM so we finally have 5 bricks to build Rome. We've seen it for years already and now we need ownership to prove they can afford more bricks and not the next year and the next year.
As much as I hate to say it he's right. Sure we spent $7 million on a forward but have you seen what Chicago, Dallas, and Cincy have spent this offseason? We are talking multiple multi million dollar acquisitions. Dynamo has a measly 1.
I dont know about Chicago but the money Dallas and Cincy spent didn't really address any of their issues. I know its not the point but I would prefer nothing than the wasteful spending they did.
Media reported Ferreira signing at $4.3 million, so even more measly. We should be spending like the teams you mention. This FO is more of the same. Brenner is still in the ownership group just not the majority owner, just saying. You can tell by the moves they've made, they're still penny pinchers, in the bottom 20% of MLS.
So you think the Dynamo are going to be in the top 50% of spending in MLS?
If they aren't, then you'd have a tough time arguing that they're spending big, right?
loooool. if only.
Previously played in Serie B.
in fairness, he spent most of his career in seria A. (not a correction, just adding context.)
I know it's a highlight video but this guy's highlights are much better at any attempted highlight video you could compile for Dorsey or Valentin.
Does this move mean Lundquist goes to the bench?
If he can play both sides (seems to be the case based on fbref and TM) surely he's starting on the right?
Honestly I think he will be playing more as a RB. He's played a good amount from RB. Played all of the 2016 Olympics as a RB.
No I think they play him at RB
these highlights show a pretty high soccer IQ... maybe he's being brought in so Nagamura has someone to talk in Portuguese with about everything?
If you trust Transfermarkt, he can play LB, RB, and D mid. Valued at 715k, so not terribly encouraging, especially given the team seems to think Dorsey, not Valentin, was our starting RB as of yesterday. But I’ll wait and see what Pat and Paulo have planned for him.
I wouldn't be shocked if this fella is an improvement on Dorsey.
(Also, if transfermarkt value was a reliable measure of talent (which... eh sorta) that would still put him in the top 11 players on the team.)
Transfermarket should never be trusted they just through crap against the wall and run with it
Outta left field on this.
He might play on the right too though
That is what I am seeing and if his highlight reel is indicative of his play, he can whip in great balls with his right so RB would be great!
I assume he will play RB. That was our biggest position of need last season and I was almost certain we were going into the season with Valentin so getting a free agent 27 year old isn't awful but this looks like a Matt Jordan signing or maybe that would have been the 3rd division. I guess Asher and Onstad didn't have time to scout.
Still, a lot of excited and optimistic fans and I haven't seen a change with the new ownership yet. Next a U22 signing to replace Pena/Bajamich and that wraps up our off season.
I guess Asher and Onstad didn't have time to scout.
Actually based on the press release it sounds like Pat wanted to sign him since he was in Columbus.
“Zeca is a versatile outside back that we have been following for many years and we expect him to make an immediate impact on our squad,”
I was going to use that tweet to kill that argument. Onstad used to be a scout and has worked on player acquisitions across multiple clubs. You can also add whatever Asher has done. These guys have plenty of knowledge and reports on players so waiting on time to scout is a terrible argument in the soccer world.
Press release from 2015, saying he was going to sign with Columbus Crew, never happened. Is a good fit for Crew 2015 a good fit for Dynamo 2022? We shall see.
The point I was trying to make was that Pat had this player on his radar for years and has thought highly of him
And I was confirming that by noting the 2015 press release.
I like the guy, but I’ve never felt like Adam Lundqvist was the answer in the different playing styles the Dynamo have tried to implement since they acquired him. If this gives Adam competition and keeps him sharper - it’s a good thing. If this guy shows to be heads and shoulder above Adam - then that’s a better thing.
I like Adam I've never seen him as the problem on this team. Hopefully Zeca slots in at RB
This report was corrected to say he was being signed as a right back, which he does have experience with including winning an Olympic gold medal. Not to say you’re totally wrong about Adam but who would you rather this guy replace, Adam or Zarek?
I don’t want to go overboard but judging solely off of that....Zeca is clearly a sexy baller.
As a free agent with multiple offers from around the world, we are proud that Zeca chose Houston. Lack of transfer fee makes this a very cap friendly move for a highly rated right back at a great age. Asher Mendelsohn
