Review:

One of the original Choices books, and it surprisingly holds up well in comparison to later books. Much like Across the Void, two of your M/C’s are preconceived characters, with no customization beyond certain outfits available. However, unlike Across the Void, there is no customizable M/C at all, and I’d say that is a point against this book. I’ll admit that Kenna and Dom are very likable M/C’s, and they both are fun to play as, but it would have been nice to have more customization. I mean, The Freshman was also one of the original Choices books, and that one had a customizable M/C. Also, there are so many LI’s in this game, some of whom are so underdeveloped in comparison to others. In this first book, Kenna has Raydan, Annalyse, and Dom as LI’s, with only a single diamond scene for the first two, while the latter has three scenes to his name. Dom, on the other hand, only has Rose and Kenna, the former of whom will disappear after this book, never to be seen again. She is pretty much replaced by a certain other character as Dom’s non-Kenna LI in the next book. I wish Dom had a gay option, y’know? Why give us the option to play as a guy, and then have his only LI options be women? When Kenna has two lady LI’s? Just kind of irks me, is all. All in all, I did enjoy this book. The battles were fun, the weapons looked cool, and I had a freaking bear as an ally (her name is Lesbian). However, the book is just too clunky for me, in regards to its organization. It feels like it's trying to do too much, and at the same time, it does far too little. Not one of my favorite books, for sure. If Dom could, like, makeout with Raydan or something, I’d be a little more appeased.
