List of Graded Game Selling Sites

Discussion

Recently it was announced that Heritage Auctions will now be accepting VGA graded games for their listings. This is going to add more liquidity to the market.

Now you have the following sites all offering VGA and WATA:

Heritage Auctions (auctions + some offered listings)

Goldin Auctions (quarterly auction) [high value items]

Certified Link (quarterly auction)

Comic Connect (quarterly? auction + offered listings)

Minus Worlds (Direct P2P Sales)

and of course eBay, other generic auction/sales sites, and Facebook groups

It is great to see the hobby expanding with more competition and available vendors.

Good luck bidding/collecting.

"the hobby expanding". No, the "hobby" isn't expanding. Game collecting has been expanding for two decades; sealed game collecting has been the same lot of people feeding on each other for years.

All this is, is more people trying to get a cut of the bottom of the pyramid. All the graded auction sites in the world aren't going to increase the amount of suckers who the top of the pyramid need to feed on to keep the whole thing going - it's just going to spread them out thinner. This is actually good for the vast majority of game collectors who know that this is all a grift. Anything that undermines this means the sooner it collapses and the sooner undue attention will fall off the actual hobby.

You are essentially arguing that the demand isn't real. That's just absurd.

All of the market transactions are disproving that.

I wonder if there were curmudgeons when comics started to become graded.

The demand that exists is mostly people trying to invest, not collect as they fall for the scam. Only a tiny portion of the buyers are actually collectors.

And the reason why people will react salty to posts like yours is that the effect on the whole market is that all the prices rise as more and more people buy as an investment instead of actually collecting.

I am arguing the demand is small. Very small. People like you who are latching onto it to try and swim in the pool with the whales are the ones who are going to lose when the bottom falls out.

The group of people who have collected sealed games have always been small and niche, even prior to CGA getting into games. You're trying to tell me that because Heritage Auctions has been running its PR dept at full blast, that suddenly that pool of people has grown to even 10% of normal game collecting? Assuming they could even afford to play in the space? Not a chance.

Also what u/finalplayerryu said.
