Best Crab Rangoon in Columbus #5

Filling: I am torn on this filling. On the one hand, the garlic is really strong, and I like a strong garlicky flavor. On the other, there is a strange processed taste that isn’t very appealing. The filling flavor is also pretty one dimensional. It’s just garlic and cream cheese, and while I really enjoyed it at first bite, as I continued to eat, I found myself bored with them. An okay filling, but not great.
Wrapper: As those of you who have read my previous reviews know, I do not like the triangle rangoon. It results in a small amount of filling which is usually the best part. These were a bit greasy, but not too much that it made the rangoon unenjoyable. Overall, a very mediocre wrapper. Boring, nothing special, but not bad tasting.
Sauce: The sauce was nothing new. The very best sauces tailor themselves specifically to the rangoon - if the rangoon filling is sweet, the sauce is savory and vice versa. This was the same generic sweet and sour sauce that you can find at 90% of Chinese restaurants across the city. It didn’t really add anything to the rangoon, but it tasted fine.
Value: The price is really average. Just over $1 per rangoon seems to be the middle range from what I have ranked so far. The restaurant is in a more affordable part of town, and the price reflects that.
Overall: This was a very mediocre rangoon. It tasted fine, and checked all the boxes of what makes a crab rangoon, but it was pretty lackluster. There was nothing special about it that stood out to me. Often, I’ve found that every restaurant has something unique and different about their rangoon that sets it apart, but this was a textbook rangoon. If you’re at the restaurant, it isn’t a bad call to order these, but I wouldn’t waste any time going out of your way, you can probably get similar ones at Costco.
