It's not the end of the day if you can't go to college
Hello, I found this sub randomly when I was scrolling on reddit and I went through the post content and it looks good and I made this account to add something (I'm probably going to delete it in a few hours). Let me tell you my background.
I am a 28 year old 2nd gen American born desi guy who runs a construction company. I am from Cincinnati Ohio my parents are from Tamil Nadu. Currently I live in northern Kentucky with my wife (yes she's white, don't call me self hating) and our 3 year old son. Let's get into my childhood. From the time I was young, I was always into construction and stuff. I was always playing with my legos building stuff. I wasn't your typical desi nerd kid who's good at math or a tech nerd. For that I was mocked and bullied by other desis, I remember when I was 10 at an diwali function and when the DJ asked all the kids what they want to be they said doctor, engineer, techie, etc. When the DJ asked me and I said construction, everyone stared at me like crazy. I felt I had said something so controversial that I started crying. People were looking at my mom and dad like they neglected me. I felt I was always mocked by other desis because I was considered stupid in their eyes because I was into construction.
So when I was 17 I went to a construction company during the summer between my junior and senior year of high school and I requested that I get interviewed for the job. I was tested in my physical fitness, I had to do 100 push ups in which if I hit the ground twice my test was over I'm still sore from that haha. But yes I got the job and I started to work weekends and summers. Over there I learned teamwork and discipline. My salary at that time was 14:50 dollars an hour. Even though I was pressured so much by my community to go to college I decided not to do because I loved my job so much.
By the time I graduated high school I was working 6 days a week except Sundays from 6am to 8pm. Week after a week I got a pay raise because I kept impressing the bosses. I was working as a forklifter for about 6 years until one day the company went bankrupt and it was forced to shut down.
When the company shut down I was devastated, but by that time I had about 900k in my bank account because back in the day I used to save a lot of money. So then I decided to start my own construction business which is currently a success. I'm not going to tell you what my business name is because I don't want to leak anything out .
The end of the day is you don't have to go to college and you gotta keep grinding. Whether your a janitor or a doctor do your job to the best of your ability. As a desi man you've probably been hearing since you were 5 about "what will other people think"? Fuck that shit, do your hobby, work hard, and be happy.
