I used a hack to stay 180 days in the Schengen area (Bilateral Agreement hack)

I am a US citizen and I was able to legally stay past 90 days in the Schengen area (without applying for any special Visas). I used the Schengen Bilateral Agreement hack, which lets you spend an additional 90 days in certain countries. After spending 89 days in the Schengen area, I went to Denmark to spend another 3 months before I left.

I was able to leave Denmark to Ireland (non-Schengen) with no problem. I did not have to make additional requests or pay additional fees. At the border control in the Copenhagen airport, the lady was confused at first when she heard that I entered the Schengen area 6 months prior, but I explained to her my situation and the bilateral agreement. She let me go after a few minutes of checking my stamps with no problem.

I tried searching Reddit and there’s been a few posts asking about this but not many people who actually tried it and can share their personal experience. I wanted to make this post to confirm that it’s possible with Denmark (and relatively straightforward with no headaches)!

They even state it in their website:

https://nyidanmark.dk/en-GB/You-want-to-apply/Short-stay-visa/Visa-free-visits

Besides US citizens, this works for citizens from Australia, Canada, Chile, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, and South Korea.

Besides Denmark, Poland and France also have the bilateral agreement law with the US.

Edit:

I wrote up a guide for more detailed information on this:
