His name is Michael Chomiak (a.k.a. Mykhailo Khomiak)
I don't like Chrystia Freeland, but I would bet she relied on someone else -- who probably didn't do enough research themselves -- to understand the meaning of that banner. And in my searching of the "Bandera movement" the colours of the flag seem to be upside down, so I'm not entirely convinced they're the same thing anyhow but it certainly seems possible.
It's worth pointing out that the actual text reads 'glory to Ukraine'. Russia and certain elements have been trying to characterize it as a 'fascist' slogan.
If it was nothing then why did she delete the original and repost a picture without holding the scarf?
Edit: or, y'know, just downvote my post instead of pondering with me why she didn't post an "Oops, my bad. We all learned something here." instead of deleting/reposting pretending that nothing happened.
WTF. I put down my tablet to watch TV for an hour. Is that okay with you? Get a hold of yourself man.
And to answer your question: She probably deleted the picture because someone pointed out the potential association those particular (reversed) colours had after the fact. It doesn't mean she knew what she was doing upfront.
Because if she learned it was something that is or could be associated with a bad group she didn't want to continue to highlight it? If she knew, why would she post it in the first place?
