What’s a decent priced mini ITX DDR4 motherboard to pair with a 12600k?

Build/Parts Check

Probably not going to overclock cpu but will be overclocking RAM. Don’t know the other features of chipsets enough to make a decision between b660 and H670.

Ideally a motherboard than can still power the CPU during turbo boost and not limited by its power delivery.

The gigabyte ddr4 z690 or b660 and ASRock ddr4 z690 or h670 are pretty much the only good options right now for ddr4 12th gen itx.

Google b660 vs h670. It’s that easy.

Both have xmp capabilities tho

Honestly either chipset is fine, Like I see Asrock has a load of boards in both, I just don’t know how good the VRMs and power delivery on them are

If you're running stock settings with no OC, the Z690M-itx/ax should be just fine.

The Gigabyte Z690I Aorus Ultra DD4 is also fine.

Gigabyte one still has pcie4 problems as far as I know. Can only run stable if you run the GPU as pcie3.

Big thread at r/gigabyte

There are very few DDR4 ITX motherboards for Intel 12th Gen CPUs to have a well priced motherboard and well priced RAM. From what I can tell, only Asrock and Gigabyte are making DDR4 ITX LGA 1700 motherboards.

Here's a short list of them: https://pcpartpicker.com/products/motherboard/#f=8&s=40&sort=price&L=4&m=7,8,18,27,94

Do note that the Gigabyte B660I Aorus Pro DDR4 only has 1 M.2 slot, instead of the usual 2.

If we want at least 2 M.2 slots, that pretty much leaves you with only Asrock ITX motherboards for something decently priced.

The Asrock Z690 ITX board goes for around $230 USD on Newegg. The Asrock H670 ITX board goes for around $170 USD on Newegg.

The B660 version looks be a serious downgrade, and I'd say to avoid.

So pretty much for something affordable, you turn to Asrock.

The ASRock H670 ITX is sometimes available.

I had to buy mine from a scalper.

Asrock Z690M-ITX

How does the H670 perform in terms of your CPU sustained boost clocks?

On my 12400 (a locked chip) it runs at 3.9 all the time when gaming. And when I’m loading programs it does that mega boost thing to 4.whatever for about 5 seconds.

I was in the same situation like you. I only had the Gigabyte B660i and Asrock Z690M-ITX as option. Both were at almost the exact same price here. While the AsRock dont have any VRM cooling and the P1 Limits at 150 Watt? I couldnt go with Gigabyte. Gigabyte in my eyes have so many issues with their bios, thats why I went with AsRock and no problems so far.

ASRock Z690m-itx/ax is working great for me. I steered clear of the Gigabyte one as it got bad reviews. I have a 12900K chip in it and it's a monster. Couldn't find it in stock anywhere in the US, so wound up buying it from the UK. 2 day shipping! No import duties.

are you familar w overclock settings on that board? I just got it and paired it w a 12700k but im not familiar w asrock bio's so im not sure where to start (especially since its so new)

I'm new too. I just left everything at stock, aside from the XMP memory settings. It's so fast that I don't need to push it any harder right now. I am also delidding my CPU and putting a copper heat spreader on, which apparently drops the temp by 10°C, so will help with less throttling, a sort of reverse overclock

I think you're pretty much limited to ASRock boards. I don't think I ever saw the Gigabyte B660i for sale in the US and the Z690i Aorus is almost $300 with pretty bad issues, which I don't know if were fixed by Gigabyte already.

Keep in mind all ASRock boards are power limited though (125~150W PL1, don't remember the exact value).

If you're in a hurry for the system, Newegg have the B660i for sale for $120 (in stock), and the H670 for $170 (backordered)
