I have no idea what the top one means. All I got out of that was "Looking For".

119
locnlolThe Red Eclipse•

2 tanks, 2 healers, for Nefra (Dread Fortress 1st Boss) Master Mode, Have 326 rating gear, Know the tactics (the mechanics of the fight and how to deal with them)

151
Dulynoted1138•

Ah, gotcha. I never became fluent in MMO.

77
Magnusav8r:Inquisitor: V-Go, Follower of the Old Ways [Star Forge]•

The second one says exactly the same thing.

77
AlortaniaThe Tanky Tank•

More directly, but yes.

Frankfurt13OPThe Red Eclipse•

The point of it is that there are 4 DPS looking for roles of responsability. As a DPS you just have to stand still and do pew pew, leaving the hard part to the other people, hence, being carried.

71
Dulynoted1138•

Well funnily enough, I'm better at tanking than I am at DPS. I can't do a healer though. I'm unable to pay attention to multiple things at once, which is required for a healer.

33
NILwasAMistake•

Same. Great at tanking. But healing I am incapable of not getting tunnel vision

6
Dulynoted1138•

I always assumed it was due to me being autistic, hyper focusing and all that.

3
pyrhus626•

Speaking as a filthy DPS’er, a lot of DPS are bad at even that. Was on MM Nul last week and the other DPS, with a higher IR than me, was doing 1K DPS on the first boss…

16
Dulynoted1138•

I once had a guildmate who literally do nothing but spam voltaic slash on his assassin. And don't get me started on his "tanking".

9
pyrhus626•

The tank in that group couldn’t hold aggro and kept dying. I ended up having to face tank the whole thing from like 60% health. Had an awesome healer tho

7
ambermozart•

for some people tanking means "put guard on healer and it's done".

2
Spicyalligator•

Tbf I probably suck hard at this game. To make up for it, I just stick to single player story content lol

4
[deleted]•

Don't worry about it! Feel free to do some veteran flashpoints. They're manageable by pretty much anyone, helps you learn more about your class and boss mechanics too!

1
SurrealSanic•

how is that even possible

1
pyrhus626•

Idk man. He was mostly just running around panicking and not actually attacking

1
Violent0ctopus:Warrior:•

Depends on how people want to do it. I have actually seen it more successful if the DPS run in at 17 stacks as opposed to turning the boss, but the DPS has to be paying attention and that really only seemed to work in my prog groups a long time ago.

2
FigTime9512•

You'd need the whole group to run to the tank at 15 stacks or the channel would wipe the raid.

1
Violent0ctopus:Warrior:•

yup. My old farm group used to do it this way.

1
AlortaniaThe Tanky Tank•

That's the "your tanks are idiots" method, usually in vibe to get everyone to run in at 15.

1
UnholyDemigod•

As a DPS you just have to stand still

wrong

0†
Frankfurt13OPThe Red Eclipse•

What mechanics there are for DPS in nefra? Step away from Droid and do damage, that's it... and still there is people wiping there.

4
FigTime9512•

Typically you have one ranged attempt to kite the droid away so that dps and the tanks don't have to move much Other then cleansing, Nefra is a parse dummy at that point

3
Salevissick•

Depends on the Server youre playing on. There are slight differences between the tactics on the different servers. If you are playing on Tulak Hord, Dps have to do nothing at nefra, since a tank will aggro the droid, so the dps can stay and the tanks move out of the circle.

1
UnholyDemigod•

Step away

Can’t do that if you stand still. DPS doesn’t really have many mechanics on most bosses, but staying out of stupid is a core concept.

-4
Encrypted_Muffins•

Same! Thankfully, we have our Duchess of Star Wars, the great Swtorista, to explain it.

10
Dulynoted1138•

Well, reason I never learned is because I'm the only active member in my guild and have no one to play with. Only reason I stay is due to sentiment and that my GM is paying for my subscription.

8
Lorhin:Republic: Star Forge | <Fortitude>•

Could always make friends outside of your guild. I had a raid team in my own guild that I ran with, but also did a lot of raiding with friends in other guilds/raid teams as well.

6
thracerx•

Make an alt. Put it in an active guild. There are lots of them. Every server has multiple OPs guilds running at least weekly.

1
Bedlamcitylimit•

Sadly I haven't done group stuff, except grouping with my friend questing, for a few years now (Beta Player) Because of the rise of entitled a-holes ruining it.

I mainly play healers while grouping and I got fed up of being screamed at by "Leroy Jenkins" because they ran off ahead of the group doing a Rambo run, while I stayed with the group and "Leroy" getting themselves killed. That was somehow my fault.

88
ilhares•

While the whole Jenkins event was scripted, I'm glad it's lodged in the collective mind so well.
It is exactly this kind of stuff that made me stop playing healers at all. In DDO, there are two main classes which can heal. The Favored Soul, and the traditional cleric. When I play, I build them purely for raw damage output as a matter of principle. "Hey, we need a healer." "Yes, you do."

31
Kant_Lavar:Guardian:•

Same here, save for that I don't have any friends, and since I will randomly ignore the game for months I can't really justify joining a guild. I haven't touched any group content in the game and I likely never will since I can't find groups that don't expect me to know how to do a fight before I've ever run the content.

Yes, I know there's video guides out there. I've tried watching them. And assuming I can find one that's worth a damn - i.e. one that's not five minutes of shitty dubstep, elaborate logos, "heeeeeeey its ya boi, smash that like and subscribe and ring that bell, this video is sponsored by RAID SHADOW LEGENDS," followed by 90 seconds of actual informative content - the information just doesn't really gel in my head until I've actually tried it myself. And while I understand that people aren't generally looking to teach things when they're posting in LFG and that's totally far, I'm not going to say "no you must play how I decree," it still kinda sucks that a significant chunk of the game is forever out of my reach.

19
Dick_of_Doom•

For a lot of the content, Dulfy's guides are still pretty good. Text based, so no ridiculous videos, and her videos are the actual content not ridiculous bro gaming crap videos. Vulkk & Swtorista make excellent content also. There are some great resources out there.

There are also a good amount of smaller guilds that help each other, and teaching raid groups. You can just join a group and say it's your first time, and let raid leader decide to take you or not. If you're open to following directions and know your class well enough (ie a DPS that doesn't taunt on CD, or a healer that doesn't tunnel on just healing tank and no one else) you can run things with some guidance. I'm pretty proud to say the guild I'm in has a lot of "never grouped before" who are now our regular raiders. All it takes is some openness.

PM if you want to run things on StarForge. In all sincerity, teaching and helping new players is my jam. Just be warned, the people I run with are a bit bawdy. 😊

mark my words but ive seen this exact comment/explanation before for a similar topic several weeks ago. not sure if it was also you but i distinctly remember reading the part about shitty dubstep in guide videos and the raid shadow legends part. I'm getting major deja vu.

1
Sm0oty•

Actually as a dps its very easy to jump into OPS with randoms you dont really have to worry about mechanics as long as your tank knows what they are doing. Just follow what the other dps players in the group are doing. 3 days ago i had not done a single OP and now i am quite confident as a dps. just jumped in with randoms one day and it went fine

1
Chisstastic•

I've been healing in this game since launch, and got kicked from a FP group for the first time in my life the other day. Tank was mad that I didn't rez him after he stood in stupid. The rez was on cooldown.

12
NotUpInHurr:Inquisitor:•

My favorite thing as a healer (sith sorc, merc, commando, sage) is letting them die. I have no sympathy for idiots like that.

Mind you, haven't done a matchmaking FP since pre-kotet, because of toxic DPSers

10
Krissam50 Assassin | LS V | Sceptor of Ragnaros•

Ironically, as a healer, my favorite thing is keeping them alive.

"If I can keep this retard alive, what's going to stop me?!"

7
Dick_of_Doom•

Am of the same mind. Sadly, now with kolto stations, they don't die. And nothing, but Nothing! pisses me off more than me in my BiS heal gear (before 7.0) seeing fools hit kolto when they're at 98% health after 1 hit. Really people, give the healer a chance.

5
TheBanzerker:Sage:•

I have done the Eternity Vault 1 time back when Level 55 was the cap. Would love to do Operations but everyone that runs them is either not accepting new players or I don’t understand the terms there using and they just get hostile so fucking quickly.

1

There was someone like this advertising in fleet last night, got called out, and claimed that "average players" had 326 after 2 weeks. These people have zero perspective.

34
Anna_Bug•

I have 326, and I thought I played fairly casually. What’s casual for y’all? (This is a genuine question)

6
darthkurai•

I mean, I play maybe 3 nights a week for 2-3 hrs tops, and that's cause there's a new expansion out and I'm leveling up my toons. I'm focusing on gearing one of them and I'm only at 322. Mind you, that's all with PUGs, I haven't had luck finding an Ops guild that works with my schedule. I have a demanding job and I take extra classes.

18
NILwasAMistake•

GSF for quick gearing.

9
darthkurai•

Is that how they're doing it?

2
Salevissick•

You dont need Pvp or gsf. You just play, whatever you like. What i did was to buy 320 gear from the conquest trader. Then do sm ops, because the crates give you an upgrade 100% of the time. After reaching 322 from sm ops, do a mix of VM Ops and MM FP's and upgrade some pieces. That brings you to 326. Then start doing nim for rakata gear.

1
volsfan1994•

PvP 326 is better than blue 326. Only rakata is better than PvP gear.

2
Jameson-U-Slime•

I’d wager most people on this sub are just in it for the story

1
tampered_mouse•

I found it funny to see how the requested iR for Nefra MM was raising over time.

2
AlortaniaThe Tanky Tank•

The requirement is always "what I have, or better" unless you're confident in your allies and yourself.

If w pull in only a couple pugs w couldn't care less if they showed up in 306 gear so long as they're 80.

Hell, yesterday we had one guy "healing" who thought neffy was a world boss.

2
HappyRhinovirus•

Hell, yesterday we had one guy "healing" who thought neffy was a world boss.

From my recent experience with PUGs, I'd be amazed if you guys cleared.

We had a Merc who ran around like a maniac, causing the tank mechanic to fail, stood behind the tanks to eat cleave damage, did not self-cleanse, and was putting out poor DPS. It's good that more players are joining groups for Ops, but they don't have people to guide and teach them. You can no longer just waltz into an HM PUG doing 12k DPS and no idea about the mechanics. Even in HM EV and KP the enrage timers have become a real threat.

1
AlortaniaThe Tanky Tank•

From my recent experience with PUGs, I'd be amazed if you guys cleared.

Oh, easily.

Tue farm train just flies.

But like I said, a good majority of us were actual raiders... and it being 16m there were at least 2 healers from our end.

We had a Merc who ran around like a maniac, causing the tank mechanic to fail

I've had a dumb DPS taunt and cleave the group, but IDK how your tanks failed wit ha merc.

stood behind the tanks to eat cleave damage, did not self-cleanse, and was putting out poor DPS.

"healers, don't heal that dude anymore" and don't rez him. That or if he's willfully messing up (aka after being told what to do) just kick his ass.

Sorry, but while you can ignore and carry in SM, there's no reason to reward that kind of dumbassness in NiM, if they're not even willing to not impede those carrying his ass.

You can no longer just waltz into an HM PUG doing 12k DPS and no idea about the mechanics. Even in HM EV and KP the enrage timers have become a real threat.

That's a good thing!

It actually makes HM's interesting, and prevents groups from thinking they're ready for NiM (cuz HM is on farm), but when they try they hit a wall because of missing stuff HM should have prepared them for.

2
NILwasAMistake•

I mean, that player isn't wrong.

-6
Waisting:Assassin:•

They're definitely wrong. The average player probably just plays their class story and never hits level 80, let alone gears up to max irating.

2
Omophorus•

Silly question... has anyone run Nefra NiM in 7.0 and also run back in the day when DF had Nightmare Power?

Or, just in general, how does the new NiM/Master Mode in 7.0 compare to the past (esp. Nightmare Power days but just NiM/Master difficulty overall)?

7
darthkurai•

I ran Nefra NiM as a healer and it was fairly easy but there's a minimum did DPS required. Dash NiM I tried but the group could not meet the DPS. I was healing at 321 gear and still out healing the 326 guy but not by much. We could've kept everyone alive easily if they could've just done more DPS.

5
NicoleMay316•

NiM Nefra is pretty straightforward. Self cleanses, healers bait droids, twin attack. It's usually the tank swap that can take some time to get down, or it's a lack of dps/hps

1
Omophorus•

Sorry, should have been clearer... I know the fight well (cleared it at launch with Nightmare Power), I just haven't touched it since then, and was curious how subsequent rebalancing has treated it in new expansions.

1
AlortaniaThe Tanky Tank•

I run with those that did, so can ask, but I've never heard any of them mention Nefra like other bosses that were extra interesting on that extra spicy difficulty.

1
Omophorus•

Nefra was always a punching bag, and not really extra interesting.

Just from the comments here, it sounded like he was being more of a gate, when in the past, even with Nightmare Power, it was kinda... hard to fail once you got the tank swap down.

I guess he was always a loot pinata masquerading as a DPS check, so maybe after re-reading the comments not much has changed.

1
AlortaniaThe Tanky Tank•

ust from the comments here, it sounded like he was being more of a gate, when in the past, even with Nightmare Power, it was kinda... hard to fail once you got the tank swap down.

I can honestly say it's most likely no harder than it ever was; there's just more incentive to do it currently, so there's more under-qualified players in the pool making the DPS check seem tighter.

1
Omophorus•

Makes sense.

Back in the Nightmare Power days it was really just for the bragging rights of the time-gated titles and the prog race in its own right, tbh.

I mean, sure, you'd get top tier gear and weapons out of it, but it was already known that they'd be easier to get when Nightmare Power was turned off, so if you just wanted the gear and weren't in a hurry, there was no good reason not to wait.

Probably for the best overall if they make the old raid content relevant again in a broader sense and I suppose that's inevitably going to lead to a more uneven experience with a larger player pool.

3
AlortaniaThe Tanky Tank•

This is why if you only have a couple people you don't specify after LFM.

LFM is = "all roles" or "can accommodate multiple roles".

When you just need a specific role or two that is when you go LF 1T 1H [op info]

... then again, nothing signals an unexperienced organizer like LFM 1T

Lucky you for having luck with getting successful NiM runs

I did them as a Tank all 8 runs in the imp and 5 in the rep, (plus some S%V Dash'roodes) and I'm starting to consider collecting a fee for bringing one every-goddamn-time...

Also, I used 306 to force the last 4 or 5 pieces into what I wanted, then leveled them up to 330 manualy. So no, no luck, just calculated planning.

2

Mad respect because of the gearing I only really play 2 of toons.

1
joritan:Knight: Corun•

I know this is just a meme but thinking that tanks and healers are more important than DPS is such a story-mode attitude

-6
Frankfurt13OPThe Red Eclipse•

is not about importance, is about dificulty and messing things up.

Tank and Healer roles are harder than DPS in many instances mechanicaly wise, plus if there is lack of healing or the tank messes things up, it often ends up in a raid-wipe. While in most cases if there is a DPS doing 12K DPS, there is the posiblity that another one who's doing 30K can make-up for the other guy's flaws. AKA: Being Carried.

7
tampered_mouse•

Yes. Tanks and healers are the "pillars", providing the core structure. Without this enrage timer stuff they could keep a fight going until the boss / whatever is dead or into a stalemate without any side winning. That is where the DPS come into play, and to make things more "interesting" there is the enrage timer to force DPS not to slack off.

3
Moonman711Show me on this Ewok where Bioware touched you.•

Sorry but Healers get carried through the content and the requires skill level to be a healer is so low compared to a actually playing a DPS class properly. The only mechanic they have to do aside from healing is the occasional cleanse, which the majority of Healers suck at and not standing in stupid. Tanking on the other hand is not hard but you’re the one stuck with doing most of the mechanics of most encounters which makes being a Tank not as easy as it seems.

In NiM, if a DPS is pulling 30k while the lowest one is doing around 12k, you’re not going to clear that many bosses, in fight, I don’t think you’re going to clear the first one on any of the NiMs (Excluding Nefra). A lot of the DPS check are really tight and lagging behind 2-3k DPS has a high risk of hitting enrage timer or failing a DPS check sequence within the fight.

0†
Frankfurt13OPThe Red Eclipse•

You completly missed my point.

First: Being a Healer is harder than a DPS, with a DPS you need fast imputs, with Healer you need multi-tasking, which is by itself a harder trait of a human. I can do 50 APMs on a DPS class no sweat, I can Tank and do mechanics no sweat, but I get stressed when I see 8 bars going up and down and don't know who to focus healing.

Second: On a DPS, you rely on yourself, that's it, you do DPS, that's it. as a Tank, some bosses do well with 1 Main tank and 1 Off-tank, some need cooperation, but is doable. Now try to heal NiM nefta with people who don't cleanse and with a healer that barely does 10K healing. GOOD FKING LUCK. And also good luck not overhealing someone because both healers mistakenly healed the same person.

Third: The 12K 30K was an "exageration" of some sort, of course, that 12K guy is gonna get kicked, but still, the big pp damage of a DPS can compensate the lack of other. That doesn't happen as often with Tanking or Healing. If your co-tank or co-healers are pepegas, you are going to suffer more than a newbie playing Dark Souls for the first time.

And the proof is simple, for every 20 players who main a DPS, you'll find 1 or 2 tanks maybe and 3 helaers at much. Otherwise you wouldn't have long ass queues as DPS.

Is the same I always say: If you need a tank, do it yourself, and that's why I proudly main a Tank.

3
Moonman711Show me on this Ewok where Bioware touched you.•

Healing is not harder than DPSin in any shape or form. All you have to do is exactly what I said before, cleanse and don’t stand in stupid. Doing 50 APM is nothing if you’re not using the correct rotation at any point especially when all you need to do is stack enough alacrity to get the 1.3 GCD and get a 45-50 APM spamming basic attack. Getting a 45-55 APM, doing 28k+ damage, keeping up with the encounter, the constant moving around, target swapping, rotating defensives, managing resources, and not dying to standing in stupid is a much more complex task than simply standing in one spot and pressing green abilities without running out of energy. You can tunnel as a healer and not die most of the time. You tunnel as a DPS or a Tank and you’ll most likely cause a wipe.

As a DPS you rely on your Tank not getting you killed and healers being capable of healing Raid wide damage without forcing you to burn DCDs in an unnecessary manner. Take Brontes for example, if all you do as a DPS is damage, you’ll wipe before the first hand is down. Brontes burn, if you don’t DCD properly, get knocked properly and perform the highest you possibly can, you wipe. That’s just one example. I could bring out more if you want but it goes beyond just tunneling.

Almost all Bosses in NiM require two tanks and there’s no such thing as Off-Tank in SWTOR. Both Tanks have the same level of responsibilities. Very few fights in NiM can be solo Tanked. If you’ve done NiMs, you would know this.

Nefra has a 3 second CD on cleanse, if healers need to rely on people self cleansing, they’re trash healers because most of the self cleansing abilities are on a 1 minuted CD especially on Melee classes, and you get two Raid wide dots every minute. In other words, who is cleansing the second round after all the DPS and Tanks have their self cleanse on CD? The Healers of course and they can get 4 within 12 seconds and since you have two, that’s 4 each. If Nefra is such an issue for your healers, you’re not getting past Brontes burn on NiM.

Your healer example applies to a Tank not knowing what to do and/or having a shitty DPS in the group. You’ll wipe on NiM every single time. Sorry, but the big PP DPS is not going to compensate for a lack of another, not in NiM. If anyone in the 3 roles is a pepega, you’re not clearing any NiM boss.

There are 3 times more DPS classes than there are Tank and Healers combined of course you’ll see an abundance of DPS compared to the other roles. Plus people want to do Damage rather than take the damage or heal through it.

1
AlortaniaThe Tanky Tank•

You're right. There's a ton DPS and ranks can do to carry bad healers; a lot good DPS and healers can do to carry shit tanks...

There's very little healers and tanks can do when stuck with shit DPS.
