To be fair, christians are a contentious bunch so they may be Christian but there’s a pretty good chance they’re not her type of Christian. So there’s still room for conversion

If she's evangelical, they've a tendency of exploiting people in the worst spot of their lives for 'christ'

chrisserung•

She's tweeting about faith healing, like the televangelist kind. Fair chance she's not that benevolent.

I find that’s less frequently the case with missionaries than evangelical’s because missionaries actually have to go to another country and go through a lot of discomfort to do what they’re doing so generally they actually believe in it (as opposed to evangelicals who just stay where they are and preach about how them buying an expensive car with the parish’s donations is the Lord’s will).

Lots of discomfort. Like having churches in the west support your life abroad.

Evangelical missionaries are fucking snakes. I went to a school run by those guys and they saw that I was a lonely, vulnerable kid so they used that to get me to "turn to Christ". That shit was damaging as fuck and while I got out of it not everyone did and they still suffer from a bunch of mental issues.

Lmao imagine doing humanitarian work as a POC in a country that venerates Nazis.

90
PaxHumanitus•

If theirs isn't a giant flashing showcase of fundamentalist blindness, I don't know what is.

Ceejay327•

As a POC, I honestly find it difficult to support and empathize with a country that openly houses and condones Nazism, racism, etc., despite the active invasion. I hope that's not a shitty take.

14
sunicsOP•

Several things can be true at once friend. That being said, I used to be against the invasion up until recent. I am black, and found what they’ve done to us disgusting, but alone that’d be a dumb reason to condone invasion and far too unprincipled.

What shifted me was how Ukraine allowed western funded Nazis lose on ethnic minorities Russians of Donbas wanting to self determine for the past decade where several documented war crimes have taken place by orgs such as Amnesty international.

I felt so furious and deceived by western propaganda as I’d say for the last decade so had relatively positive views of Ukraine…

I hope the war ends but looking into it, denazification is actually true concern, and protecting the oppressed from Nazis is no different to the pretences of the Allies in WW2 that are glorified.

13
KunnFayyaKunn•

I don't think Putin's intention is to denazify, really. He has his own reasons, and it isn't benevolent. However, the presence and veneration of Nazis efinitely made his job easier.

Not just people of African origin. I read they were doing to Indians and other ethnic origins too and they still are now. Only whites (not British) are allowed through.

Iranian and Tajik students were stopped from escaping too

This will go about as well as that couple's hippy peace bike ride through ISIS territory. (they were killed by the first jihadists to spot them)

Wow now I’m curious to see a source

Wow. Didn't even bother with guns

Dang

They weren't in ISIS territory, they were in Tajikistan where many other tourists have been absolutely fine and they had no reason to think ISIS would be active in the area. They got killed in a random attack which ISIS later claimed after the fact. When you make it sound like they merrily skipped into Syria waving peace signs, you're just reinforcing the idea that the whole of Asia is some terrifying no-go zone.

3
PaxHumanitus•

ISIS does have allied assets there. I should have worded it a bit differently.

That said, everything from Syria to nearly that point IS a no go zone for people like them (people so naive or ignorant that they’re certain to get themselves killed there)

I saw a Nigerian on Twitter asking how to enlist in ukraine to, and I quote this: "Combat racism and help black people stranded at the border".

So yeah, it's probably just darwinism at play.

As a Libertarian I consider religion to be an excellent tool to social hierarchy and consolidate profit revenue.

As a Christian can confirm.

I grew up in an evangelical family, and I remember this older teenager in my church went on a two week mission to Ukraine (this was a decade or so ago). I remember thinking like, why?. It was treated as super normal, so clearly these weirdos have been doing this war too.

I shall send them thoughts and prayers.

They are either very brave or very stupid. I'm voting stupid, personally.

Sending humanitarian help is based. Sending weapons and soldiers is not.

"Preach the Gospel"

Aren't the Ukrainians mostly Orthodox? lol. They are a lot closer to the original Christians than whatever evangelical/baptist denomination these people seem to be from.

2
JosephTito-theBroz•

Yeah, they’ve been Orthodox since the fourth century or something like that.

And conservatives are liberals.

Not Americanized terms of “conservative” and “liberal,” which make no sense.
