Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our [feedback guide](https://new.reddit.com/r/ocpoetry/wiki/feedbackcritiques), or look

That’s fair, I suppose capitalization of each line break is force of habit at this point, but certainly not necessary

This was jaw-dropping, and the rhyme scheme contributes to that so much. You described it so well that even without the title, I would have been able to decipher the meaning. You did lose me at the capitalization. To capitalize each word of each line is archaic and juvenile. If the line ends without a period then the following line should not begin with a capital letter.

I’ve never actually been in a pageant either! It’s a metaphor for being a woman (any woman) and the constant pressure to look “better” even if you aren’t the type. I don’t think I alluded enough to it being a metaphor rather than the actual scene of the poem, I should probably work on that! I can get taken away by metaphor sometimes lol

This was really nice i think that this is a perspective that many people don't get to experience from not being in pageants. So this was interesting.

maybe throw in more description of the scenery then hit them with a sharp tongue of the pain that is felt.

I know nothing of poetry.

It's mainly the longer lines and slightly the commas as well. I'm thinking that if it had started with longer lines and then it was shorter at the end (so basically opposite), it would emphasize a faster pace. Not too sure though!

By breaking format are you referring to using more words than the previous stanzas, the use of commas, or both? The same though crossed my mind while I was writing. I tried to mimic the fast pace and urgency with all lines except the last few as the pressure becomes too much, but the narrator is trying to get through, if that makes sense. There may be another way I could try that though. Thanks for the suggestion!

This was saddening yet exciting to read.

Although I agree with the message of the last stanza, it could use some work.

It delivers a great message, but it can be done without breaking the format.

Amazing read though.
