I only have happy memories of this car, happy memories of riding with my dad to the lawn mower repair store on a sunny fall day for its annual tune up. Ours was black with a 5-speed. It was never the same after my mother got in a minor accident with it (it would stall in turns for some reason) and we traded it in for a Windstar.

Oh man, thinking more about this the more the warm nostalgia comes over me. It had those awesome 90s cloth seats with the gray fabric with the multicolored like triangle parts. And my dad always let me ride (lying down!!!) in the back to “keep the lawn mower from rolling around” and it was like a special thing because “the cops could arrest me if they saw you back there so keep your head down.” Man, it’s funny what a picture of a car can bring back.

They were everywhere but now they are nowhere.

And even after the Focus debuted here in October '99, the Escort sedan continued until 2002, and the ZX2 coupe until 2003.

Why would anyone buy this in 1999 when the focus had already been out for a year?

Edit: Just realised that the focus only came to the NA market in 2000?!

My neighbor had one in a sickly shade of beige. It was pretty rusty but it lasted many years as a winter beater. Either last year or the year before it finally conked out and was replaced by a white Chevrolet Cobalt.

My uncle turned his electric so he could get a better parking spot. Slowest thing I've ever ridden in, but he did it himself and it worked.
