What are the longest (good) litrpg series out there?

I've always loved litrpg as a genre, but I go in waves. I spend a lot of time reading traditional 'door stopper' fantasy and sci-fi, and I like the length of those. Right now, I'm reading nothing but litrpg, but I keep running out of books in a series.

I've read Blessed Time, waiting for a new book. Read Dungeon Crawler Carl just in time for the latest book to come out, but now I've finished that, too. Currently reading Noobtown, but I just finished book 5, so I've got less than a week to go. Oh, Great! I was Reincarnated as a Farmer was great, but only one book.
I know there's a new Awaken Online I haven't read, so I can try that. I've read several Dungeon Core books too, but I couldn't name a series off the top of my head.

Are there any quality litrpg books that are either really long in and of themselves, or part of a really extensive series? Bonus points if they also eventually reach a satisfying conclusion, but I can live without that.

What might be of some use is the Long List of LitRPG which has column headings that you can click on to re-sort. The time is for the first book only, but the "Books" column is number of books: click twice and you get the top number of books in the series.

If you made this…..thank you

Also, is it updated often? It seems to have books from 2022 so I assume that it is!

neoporcupine•

You're welcome! Yeah, reasonably regularly. My intention is that once a month I will go through this sub's "Monthly New Releases" for this month and might also do an older month on my back-log to see if I missed any.

I also occasionally add updates from the facebook litrpg books group.

I also like to check the current ratings for series with "Low Nr Ratings" because nobody wants to see "Portal to Nova Roma" up the top just because J.R. Mathews' mum and her friends rated it 5 stars :P (I kid, I kid, I'm a huge fan of Jake's shop, u/thescienceoflaw I'm sure it is as awesome as the review say).

I think the COVID lock down had everyone attempt their LitRPG novel because publication really ramped up from 2020.

I was literally reading this thread and bookmarking stuff to read for the future when I got the notice that I was tagged here. It was super weird lol.

Thanks for the list

Thank you! for creating a list as long as this and updating it regularly. I get to find the Litrpg list in one place. It gets difficult after a while to find good series that you might have missed. Appreciate your efforts and sharing this with everyone.

Artorian archives is a branch of the divine dungeon series but fair warning after the first 4 books or so it devolves into a very loose feeling and the only thing I'll say about the ending is that it has one.

2
Sheerkal•

Yup. It definitely took quite a turn. Cool if you're obsessed with the lore tho.

I was obsessed with the lore I feel like the lore was derailed then disregarded

I just finished Chaos seed it is indeed rrly good

Thanks for the list!

To your knowledge (or the knowledge of anyone else who may know), has anyone made a list like this that includes web serials and focuses on word count?

1
neoporcupine•

That's very specific - while I haven't seen any list like this, people do like making lists.

So going with long LitRPGs we have quite a number of long ongoing ones, and a couple of shorter ones. I've read everything here but The Wandering Inn, and can recommend them.

Not complete yet

  • The Wandering Inn (~4M-5M words)

  • Ar'Kendrithyst (9914 pages, ~2.5M words, Royal Road)

  • Azarinth Healer (8873 pages, ~2.5M words, Royal Road)

  • Chrysalis (4500 pages, ~1.2M words, Royal Road)

  • Tree of Aeons (2286 pages, ~0.5M words, Royal Road)

Completed (also mostly translated Korean novels)

  • The Tutorial is Too Hard (~1M words)

  • Everyone Else Is A Returnee (~1M words)

  • I Alone Level-Up / Solo Levelling (~0.8M words)

17
throwthisidaway•

Not complete yet - The Wandering Inn (~4M-5M words)

Hah, close... try just over 9 Million. Maybe that was the word count last month?

12
Quickdart•

Wow, I was way off. 1.01 - 4.49 covered ~2M words, so I assumed 5.00 - 8.72 would be about the same again.

Each audiobook for The Wandering Inn is a chonker.

16
lyssos•

It is no hardcore litrpg (no stat-dumps every chapter or so) but if you do enjoy other fantasy as well and don't need that you should give it a try! It is around 9 million words long right now so it is long. BUT be aware that this book takes really long to get started. And I mean it really takes a looong time. So if you are looking for action right away, this is not the right one for you, but if you stick to it, you get a series with an author who writes about a book a month, really great worldbuilding and in depth characters.

bareboneschicken•

The system that runs that universe certainly gives out some unique abilities.

I am pretty fond of the System apocalypse by Tao Wong. He just finished the series at book 12 this month.

Emerilia by Michael Chatfield is complete at 11 books, and I'm rereading it for the third time now. His series The Ten Realms is ongoing at book 10, and the first several of this series are my absolute favorite in the genre.

He Who Fights With Monsters by Shirtaloon. Cowboy Necromancer by Harmon Cooper. Cradle by Will Wight (more Cultivation imo but kinda litRPG too), Iron Prince by Luke Chmilenko and Bryce O’Connor

There’s more but that’s off the top of my head

My personal favorite litrpg is Dungeon Lord by Hugo Huesca, 4 books so far with the fifth not having a status update in a long while. If what you want are long stories then I’d suggest Super Powereds or Arcane Ascension, these aren’t litrpgs but they are long. A couple of completed webnovels I’d also suggest are Worm and A Practical Guide to Evil; again not litrpg but very long.

Have a look at The Land which is eight books and counting plus Way of the Shaman which is seven and finished. Both good reads and take quite some time to get through.

CivCEO is 8 books long, and the series is finished. Might be worth checking out.

Mark of the Fool is really good, no stats/system, just great progression fantasy.

Primal Hunter is system based, OP MC, apocalypse/trial for Earth's assimilation. Very long and entertaining

Double Blind is really good, not very long yet but it's a localized (as far as we know) system apocalypse.

Paranoid Mage is another no stat/system progression fantasy, very good, but updates are slow.

Beneath The Dragoneye Moons is large, fantastic, isekai system based progression fantasy where the MC doesn't actually get much of anything handed to them aside from a selection of memories from earth.

Paranoid Mage

is another no stat/system progression fantasy, very good, but updates are slow.

Five chapters a month (you get an extra at the beginning of the month), but the chapters are meaty.

It's also apparently planned, with a definitive ending, according to InadvisablyCompelled (the guy who is behind Blue Core as well).
