Fucking love you Kloppo.

Shit narrative from people who don’t understand football.

Just because you’re a world class creator doesn’t mean you’re not good at defending. His playmaking qualities just happen to shine above anything else.

Ikr? Modern football has changed. What TAA brings to the plate is incomparable, especially from the position he plays. You wanna tame it like Southgate, do it but you'll not win a trophy with a generational talent like him not given the freedom

Do they really believe it themselves though or do they just make it up in order to say something negative?

That’s a good question. Group think is strong too, right—hopping on a train of thought because it’s easier than analyzing and debunking myth. So maybe it is more of that..

His 1 on 1 defending is actually not that good

He actually Defended very well in second half. Helped that Hendo doubled up on Martinelli too. Martinelli is troublesome like vini.

I mean Martinelli played really well. But in the grand scheme of things he played in two decent balls and had a shot that went wide that maybe he should have scored. And we didn’t concede. Fullbacks are going to come up against tricky wingers in their careers and Trent did tonight, doesn’t mean he can’t defend.

It was also to do with Arsenal's approach, their gameplan centered around keeping Martinelli/Saka wide so they can get space to run at their full back, they rarely made inside runs, and to be honest, you'd much prefer that because they are then so far from goal, and didn't actually threaten the goal.

Teams that have really troubled us got between Trent and Matip, running at Trent just allows us to get cover.

Also this was Trent's fourth 90 minutes in 11 days, he has done well considering.

Completely agree.

The commentary on Sky was awful, the subdued reaction to our goals made me laugh out loud.

I didn’t think either of them went in for a second

Probably not the best case today to make such a statement while I’m absolutely agreeing with the overall point though.

He's obviously making the comment right now because he's aware that a few may have pointed out martinelli having the better of Trent several times.

And Trent has been our MotM for quite a few games lately. Considering how many games he plays it’s understandable that not every day can be a 100% amazing day.
I love Klopp for choosing today to say this.

Best and most complete stretch of performances Trent has put together. Absolutely critical against Chelsea and West Ham. Was fantastic in our loss against Inter. Did well against Brighton and Arsenal. 4 PL clean sheets on the bounce. —> crickets

Gets rinsed a few times by Martinelli but comes to nothing (still keep a clean sheet) —> Trent can’t defend

Sums it up really.

Tbh I felt he was always much stronger going forward and wasn’t that good defensively. And that’s ok. But the Carabao Cup Final change my mind. He put in a complete performance that Steven Gerrard would be proud of. Kelleher got MOTM and rightfully so…but Trent was the star of that final for me. What a performance.

Thing is, from what little i know about martinelli, he likes to cut inwards and be in a good goal scoring position ala striker, rather than going wide and crossing the ball in. But he was prevented from doing so, as trent was always around pushing him wide, albeit with help.

He needs to be out of the position, then run really fast and make a tackle, like Wan Bissaka.

This probably isn't the game to show people though. Martinelli had him toast a few times and it wasn't a matter of Trent being up the field, it was a matter of Martinelli playing right through him.

But then, that's why Klopp is tapping him up complimenting him all the time.

I'm with you. TAA is incredible going forward and that is a huge positive and can bot be denied. But in the back it seems he gets nervous or unsure of what to do. He was beat so many times in the first half that they had to double Martinelli with Hendo. This wasnt just knocking the ball past and beating them with speed this was dribbling through TAA. We do have some of the best defenders in the league so it does help to have them cover for mistakes made but against better teams. Martinelli did look sharp and willing to attack. After halftime it did look like TAA settled down and looked focused.

I believe him

Did we watch the same game, Is he just gas lighting the whole fan base?

Well, he did get rinsed by martinelli a couple of times but so did a few of our other players when they tried to help out. I guess it was more on martinelli being on fire than anything. Still, he did what he had to do, which was to prevent martinelli from cutting in to be in a goal scoring position for most of the match.
