1.0 out of 5 stars Make it in the USA and just charge more, please. Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2017 Color: RedVerified Purchase I'm a professional cook, and I've used these Taylor "pins" for many years. I don't know what happened, but they are nothing like they used to be. Complete junk. The whole top of the unit popped off when I pulled the battery tab. I popped it back on, but I couldn't get it to snap back into place properly. I figured it was OK but it didn't feel correct. First time I used it, the top came off again and pulled the wires out. I know it's only $7, but it's still complete junk. They also changed the buttons and changed the sheath. Look elsewhere. Sorry Taylor, you can't cut corners. Make it in the USA and just charge more, please. 27 people found this helpful Helpful

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Overall Value - Bit Slow Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2017 Color: RedVerified Purchase We have been using Taylor instant read thermometers for over 15 years. Had always bought the professional model - always having several about. This model is a low cost consumer grade yet has a larger text display I like. Yet the probe is fatter and not tapered at the top like the professional so it's slower reading the temperature than the professional model. That's a bit annoying when grilling as you want to close the door as fast as possible and you have to wait 30 seconds. I have used both at the same time and the professional model reads in about half the time. Both are accurate. My experience is they last around 5 years or so. The battery needs changing probably every two years. Eventually they get some moisture inside and the display gets dim or it just flakes out. Definitely like the Taylor brand as it's small and reliable. Personally I would buy the professional model 9842 because I am impatient and want to serve quickly. 4 people found this helpful Helpful

1.0 out of 5 stars I was quite disappointed with the quality of this product Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2015 Color: RedVerified Purchase I was quite disappointed with the quality of this product. I bought 2 of these thermometers for home brewing purposes. When they arrived, the packaging was intact. After pulling the battery safety tab and attempting to turn the units on, nothing happened. Both screens were blank.
After removing the cover of one of the units to see what the problem was, I noticed that the battery had exploded. I used a dry rag to attempt to remove some of the dried battery acid. After replacing the battery with a new one, the screen reads 888.8 and will not power off. To top it all off, the cover no longer clicks in place and just dangles there.
I am glad I decided to try this cheaper model before buying one of the more expensive ones. I will NOT be buying a Taylor thermometer again and would NOT recommend it to anyone. You would be better off with a different manufacturer. 9 people found this helpful Helpful

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2019 Color: RedVerified Purchase Reliable product. I have used several models of Taylor thermometers and other kitchen products such as scales timers etc over the years in kitchens from Arizona to Washington. When I needed a new thermometer for work I wanted one with the round head that displays the temp on the top rather than the perhaps more compact digital stick thermo that displays the temp sideways. However this one is more compact then the pictures had me believe so I was pleasantly surprised. I went with the Taylor brand thermo because it was honestly the cheapest in this style on amazon in addition to being a trusted brand. One person found this helpful Helpful

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn’t Work Reviewed in the United States on August 1, 2021 Color: RedVerified Purchase Bought it as a present for a July 23rd birthday. The very date the return window closed. Not only does it not work, there are no instructions enclosed in package as stated on the outside. So if I want to try and change the battery, I am out of luck. What a waste of money. 1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2018 Color: RedVerified Purchase I was very disappointed. I used it to measure milk temps as a barista. The first time I pulled it out of the sleeve, the top popped off to reveal the batteries and wires. It came back together, but the next time I used it, it popped off again and the wires snapped with it! It updated the temp far slower than similar thermometers and was overall a disappointment. The seller gave me a full refund. 5 people found this helpful Helpful

1.0 out of 5 stars Broke before I could even use it Reviewed in the United States on May 31, 2020 Color: RedVerified Purchase The protective cover was extremely stuck. As I finally got it loosened and the meat thermometer started to come out, the top of the unit fell off and one of the wires was broken. I just threw it out. Not worth the time to complain and return.
Not worth buying the same one again. One person found this helpful Helpful

5.0 out of 5 stars Select the F or C and then stick into the ... Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2015 Color: RedVerified Purchase Select the F or C and then stick into the cooked meat you want to check for temperature. Push the on button and it will rapidly climb to the temperature of the meat. As a side note it will save the life of the internal button battery if you remember to quickly hit the button again to turn it off when removing from the meat. I say this because the last one I had of identical size and look ran through the button battery in under a year, the unit then breaking when I tried to replace the battery and why I bought this new one. Also be sure to always wash off the metal probe before pushing it back into its holder so you don't have bacteria growing inside the holder. 2 people found this helpful Helpful
