Little help for a beginner

I’ve recently tried to make a box and a book rack with the very limited hand tools I have. My problem is that I cannot get the angles or even a straight cut with a hand saw or a hack saw to go straight. Please provide some tips.

I cannot afford power tools, both in terms of finance and space. It’s just that I find carpentry fascinating for physical exercise while creating something useful.
