Just got some amazing news

Yeah, my head chef just told me the restaurant we work in will be closing Sunday! The title was sarcasm lmao. He gave me the number for his old head chef that runs a massive kitchen in a hotel nearby and he’s given pretty much everyone who worked there a trial shift next Monday.

I’m feeling a whole lot of emotion, as it was my start in kitchens and genuinely really enjoyed working there. I’m absolutely shitting it for the trial shift though, as where I worked was tiny and apparently nowhere near as busy as we ever got, but god i’m looking forward to the opportunity and the challenge if it works out. Wish me luck guys

Make sure you shit your pants mid trial shift, then work through it all the way till the end. They'll really think your dedicated. A practical shoe in for the position.

It’s weird how kitchens feel different at first but really they all kinda the same lol

Guessing from ops use of the phrase 'shitting it' they're UK based.

Admittedly I'm London based so the same may not be true for everywhere but chefs are very much in demand here. Tons of places are hiring, even a lot of pretty high end places are desperate for staff. Also post lockdown (and Brexit) conditions and hours have generally improved as places have to make a more attractive offer to hire/keep staff as the supply of willing and skilled labour has shrunk.

Even if I'm wrong about UK based I feel this trial shift advice applies almost anywhere: Just go in, show what you can do, be honest (about your capabilities and what you want to them, and with yourself about whether it seems like a place you want to work) and the worst that can happen is that you like it and don't get the job. Even if that happens unless you're in the absolute middle of nowhere there will be plenty of other options to explore. I'm sure you'll land on your feet one way or another bud, best of luck to you.
