Wait till you understand that NM needs a backend, and typically uses wpa_supplicant as one.
Uhhh. I do understand that. I also understand I don’t need NM.
NM needs me. I don’t need it. And I can manage WPA_supp without NM. I just lose the pretty GUI.
Agreed. NM is horrible.
I wrote my own NM-like thing in perl, and it works pretty well. I need to break out some hard-coded parameters into a configuration file and turn some Slackwareisms (like calls to dhcpcd) into logic which detects what's installed (most distros use dhclient), but then it should be about ready to share with the world.
It’s honestly amazing how incredibly terrible it is.
It interferes with literally everything I try to do. I figured for a desktop setup and no advanced networking it could maybe suffice. NOPE can’t even handle that lol
Much like this post.
Much like your comment .
Seriously, though. NM is such trash i can’t even describe it.
I understand your frustrations and I'm actually a fan of network manager. It's a whole other deal with WiFi in particular
You should be able to disable power saving on the connection through it - if you find yourself in this situation, keep it in mind.
I have a feeling it'll help, it did on my brother's machine
I tried. Either it didn’t take or didn’t fix the problem. We can’t know of course because NM is hot trash. 😂
Lol it can be interrogated the usual ways - ethtool or whatever! I feel you, though.
