Extremely depressed since moving here, need advice desperately
Hello to everyone in r/boston. I come to you guys in earnest and good faith, and if at any point in this post I come across as offensive, I apologize.
I moved to Boston to come to Harvard for grad school last year. I regret moving here for that because I dislike the city so much. I’m an outgoing and affable guy and previously haven’t had issues making friends or fitting in (I’ve lived in five different states). Here, I feel like a pariah. People here seem so cruel and mean.
It doesn’t help that it costs so much to live here, and I live off $35k a year, which makes life rather arduous in these parts. I put in a considerable effort but the classism here is excruciatingly apparent and I can tell in the way people treat me.
It seems like people here are insular and mostly have their own groups they grew up with. I’m totally willing to be proven wrong about my analysis of this city, but as of now, I loathe it with every fiber of my being.
I’m a recovering addict and being here makes me want to relapse. I’m at the point where I’m planning to just bolt after graduating.
I’m embarrassed to even admit any of this, hence why I made a throwaway. If what I said was crass and means I should have the piss taken out of me, so be it. I thought this was worth a try.
