DAE get people WHISTLING at them to get their attention?

[Rant/Vent]

Mine was two different customers rather than anything parental but the problem is the same. You don't whistle to get someone's attention. Not if you have a functioning pair of legs and voice box (mentioned in deference to the fact that disabilities do exist) and are physically capable of walking over to the person and talking to them, you don't.

If I react to the whistling, it's because I'm reacting to "unexpected noise" and trying to see what it is, not because I'm answering a summons. It's a reflex, the same as whipping around at the distinct sound of shattered glass is a reflex, not a response that assumes there's human intelligence behind the noise.

If, on the other hand, I don't react, it's because I'm not a dog and don't answer to whistles and therefore cannot be reasonably expected to assume that it was supposed to capture my attention.

And yet there are, clearly, people out there who think this is a perfectly acceptable way to summon someone for their benefit.

(On a similar note, yelling "hey!" is not a request for assistance either.)
