Choc compatible bgkeeb

I've been delving into the idea of improving the ergonomics and I'm thinking of building a bgkeeb. However I was hoping to find a low profile variant. I haven't learned to use kicad yet so I have no idea if it is easy enough to change the cherry holes to that.

I'd gladly look at alternate reversible PCBs that are smaller then 100mm*100mm (to make it the cheapest possible essentially)

What's a "bgkeeb"?

You certainly could change the MX (cherry) footprint to a choc one, but not many choc boards use the same MX spacing.

If you're going for the 100x100 for the promotion, allpcb now only offers that for corporate accounts. Unfortunately most boards are at least 110 mm in one direction. But JLC is still pretty reasonable.

I'd recommend taking a look at the sweep. It's a great board for beginners, and v2.1 is reversible.

This is the bgkeeb

I looked at the sweep and should get it soon enough. Thanks for the input :) While I wait I'll try to get my hand on the other components ^^

If you go through the owners repo list there is sweeeep https://github.com/sadekbaroudi/sweeeeep which is sweep with 36 keys.

FYI if you go for bgkeeb the controller sits under the keeb which will make it higher you can go for corne and remove the outer column or go for chocofi there is also 3x6, Draculad, minidox.

Edit: added more alternative keyboard

I'm going to have to save up to have a collection :P

More seriously, I'll be investing in a couple of makerspaces near me to create my own I think. I'm also inetersted to make more specific use macropads. Game pads and such.

You could try asking u/sadekbaroudi nicely. The man's a monster of keyboard making. There's also an easy way you can thank him for all the hard work: https://github.com/sadekbaroudi/bgkeeb#support-me.

I'd be happy to make a choc version at some point! As u/muppetjones pointed it out, it's just changing the footprints and rerouting. A bit time consuming, but not hard.
