Does using a trilled r make it difficult to understand someone?

Question/Discussion

I'm not a native speaker of French but I live in a mostly French-speaking area. I've been working on my French because I want to be more fluent, I don't have to sound native. I natively use a trilling (or 'Spanish') r. My French teachers at school always gave me a hard time for using the trilling r, but while I can pronounce the French r, I often find that it is difficult for me to speak fluently and use the French r at the same time.

Does using the trilling r make it more difficult for native speakers to understand me? Because if not, I'm not particularly worried about my trilling r, since my main goal for learning French is day-to-day communication.
