First poem in years

Poem

The yearn is deep and ever wide

To have you near and by my side

I long for the day that may never be

A hope now lost and mere a dream

To turn back those hands of time

To love, to be, to make you mine

Oh wretched heart spare thou me

Loose these thoughts and set me free

This love a thousand words might say

But this love shall die with me one day

I'm a fool at best for my mistakes

Not pursuing you and your embrace

Time should be the healer set free

But time itself now mocketh me

This trouble my heart, please let me be

Loose these thoughts and set me free

My favorite part is definitely

This love a thousand words might say But this love shall die with me one day

You keep really good rhythm throughout the poem. Rhymes are hard to maintain, and I notice you use the same one twice: "Loose these thoughts and set me free". It's a great line for emphasis and that seems to be the theme of the poem, but feel free to explore more rhymes as well for variety. Congrats on the first poem in a while!

Thank you. The same line was at the end of stanza 2 and 4 but Reddit kept combining them and wouldn't let me have an extra blank space between them.

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. This hit hard on me. While reading this I imagined a small white wooden house, surrounded by a field of yellow flowers, with me and my family that I don’t even have yet. The power this poem has, to talk about love and invoke such an image in my head is something really fascinating, thanks for writing this.
