If you do the same, do not make my mistake and route the probe cable above the little brick. Mount the brick above the cables so they do not wick moisture into the brick.

I don't know how long the probes will last in my compost, since I have only had a probe in the compost for about a month (the first unit), but so far I am extremely satisfied with my goal having been met: see what temperature the composter is without having to wiggle myself into the back of my garage! Glad I got this figured out before the dead of winter set in. I have an aerobin and having two probes is great to see what the temp is for the bottom area where there is a worm colony, and the top area which is hot composting. (It's gotten as high as 40C in there, but right now it's down to 33C.)

The brick's magnet is stuck to a garage shelf and I'm usually checking the temperature from on the other side of an adjoining wall that has plumbing, firewall sheetrock in it, so I'm pretty impressed with the penetration ability of the Bluetooth radio.

And the alarm woke me up when the internal temp was reached. Even better I forgot the mail. The thing says 200ish feet I got almost 1/4 mile from home and it finally lost connection. Once I got back close it paired back up no issues at all. There is a odd metal clip in the box. Contacted customer support with a picture. The next evening I had a email with video telling me what it’s for and how to use it. I will definitely be looking at buying more Govee products they work great and the customer service is better than any ive delt with in a long time. It’s like…. I reconnect, walk back in the house and it loses connection ... I mean if I need to stay outside really close to the smoker with the app open the whole time what's the point of having a Bluetooth thermometer ? Update - so now it's lost Bluetooth connectivity completely. Total pos, not even worth driving 20 minutes to send it back to Amazon, it's going straight in the garbage... Immediately I noticed it does read the temperature but not of the meat the probe is in, it reads the temperature off of the flame off of the gas grill. I turn my grill up high to sear the meat a couple minutes on each side and immediately it said the ribeye was 552°, and I had just placed it on the grill. Therefore, it is useless for grilling. Return window closed, wished I would have used it sooner.

I didn't like the fact that you have to have your phone and app running the whole time in order to maintain the connection. If you lose the connection then you have to get close enough to establish it again. I personally couldn't go more than 6 or 8 ft from the smoker before it would lose the connection. Granted part of that was due to the fact I was going indoors, but even then the range was not what I wad hoping for. I would only recommend this unit if you plan to be outside the whole time with your smoker or leaving your phone in a place that it can maintain a connection. Helpful

Got this because I was happy with Govee lighting and Alexa. Thought when the food was done it would alert my phone set a routine to announce through Alexa and flash the Govee lights....NO. It is the worst investment ever for outdoor grilling. Beep is so low that cannot be herd unless close to it and the temp setting are confusing. I use my Dumb instant read and it works as expected. Bad product and should not be called "Smart" at all. You failed me Govee! Helpful

In my case deep frying a turkey and a couple chickens. Only two things that keep it from 5 stars is the curve of the probe. I get that it allows you to grip it but it doesn’t have to be a 90 degree bend to do that. The bend makes it hard for me to attach it to clamps to monitor oil temps and such. Second issue is the app. It works but just seems like it could be simpler and more useful. But that said it’s a solid unit and works as advertised. Helpful
