Can someone explain Ranni's questline to me?

I tried searching up what was going on during that questline but couldn't find a good answer. I'm going to be honest, I don't like her character at all. I find her to be pretty boring and her questline pretty boring too. I'm trying to figure out her lore to see if I can see why people like her. The age of stars ending was also really confusing.
