Looking for general feedback on the first chapter of a novel I am working on (~1700 words)
Hi, this is my first post on this sub. I have been working on a fantasy novel for some time, though most of my time so far has gone into worldbuilding. I have successfully written the first chapter, and am just looking for some general feedback on whether it seems engaging. I am aware dialogue is a weak point for me, and I have been trying to improve it. I have also committed the sin of starting with a dream sequence, but hope that flagging it as such early in the chapter avoids some of the problems it would otherwise cause.
The setting itself is a world where the protagonist Ezrin, a boy who has grown up on a small island floating in the middle of swirling mists discovers his world is a lot larger than it seemed and must fight to discover his own personal part in it.
Edit: thanks for all the feedback, formatting has never been my strong suit, but I will re-draft and try to make it more readable.
