SIM Card in Old Phone, No Calls Or Text

I've never tried this before but is this normal?

I broke my Galaxy S21 (long story) and put my SIM card from that info and old Nexus 6P and I have service and can use all my apps off of Wifi.

Only thing is I can't text or call anyone. Do I have to talk to my service provider (Verizon) to activate it?

I'm also using a custom ROM, Carbon, if that matters at all.
