lmao if nothing else… I love the optimism

Yep, and I hope they lose out the rest of the year but I wouldn’t put money on it.

Well VGK got shut out by the Jets tonight so they aren’t turning it around today.

I’m just gonna wait and see before I start tooting our horn prematurely. If Vegas has a winning streak to end the season and make noise in the playoffs like they usually do the popular sentiment will flip again into Ron being a fuddy-duddy who fumbled the expansion draft and doesn’t know how to build a team while everyone strokes Vegas’s big brains off again.

Yeah...I don't know if I'm ready to stamp this yet lol. I'll wait to see what we do with those picks and assets.

Yeah, this is the bigger deal for me. The organizational culture seems way healthier in Seattle than Vegas, and I think that's going to catch up to them eventually.

Just wait until they desperately try and get rid of patches again.

You can tell the players don’t care anymore. Thus losing every game on the road

Don't forget treating their players and coaches like shit.

That was the only time. They've lost the conference final three times, semi finals nine and quarter finals seven times. They've missed completely 8 times.

See…they aren’t even as good in real life as they are in my head.

I think I counted (misremembered) Conf Final excitement as a Cup Final. My bad!

Remind me when the second sharks final was. Because I only recall 2016.

Even if it brings disappointment, the Sharks are my bandwagon team when they're in it. I did a 6-month internship in the Bay Area, and hit up a game at then-HP Pavilion while I was there. Even though I was wearing a Canucks sweater, fans there were so chill and welcoming. They just loved their team and wanted to cheer them on, no nastiness. I've been watching all the big 4 major league sports ever since I was a kid, in many different arenas and stadiums, and that was one of the most pleasant places I've been. Thanks for the great experience - and because of it, I'll jump on the Sharks bandwagon whenever they do make the playoffs. (As long as it's not against Seattle or Vancouver. ;) )

Fuck Vegas. I’ll say that as a Sharks fan. But they came outta the gates HOT. Put out real competitive teams for a few years and got to the Finals. As a new team, that’s impressive.

My Sharks have peaked and are bottoming out. One Final in recent years. Seems like they put together a competitive team consistently, but not a serious contender. ONE cup finals in 30 years…

Looking forward to Vegas fading back in the standings and seeing what you guys in SEA can put together up there. Welcome and GL

Corrected to “ONE cup final…”. Oof

Draft prospects out of the first round fail more than hit. Yall need to wait a bit before we start talking shit about being a success story.

They lost to Montreal--ha, we can beat those guys!!

Poor Vegas making the finals and the playoffs another couple times...yeah we really have it better here in Kraken land.

Love the Kraken but every single person in this sub right now would kill for any of the teams vegas has put forward since it’s inception

The team isn't having to 'rebuild' after one season. The Kraken had a realistic expansion team inaugural season and are now making moves to build on the foundation. The OPs take on Vegas being in a worse situation is a laugh though.

-_-

We don’t get to say this after not making the playoffs and having to rebuild after one season. Vegas made the Stanley effin Cup in their expansion year, stay competitive, and their fans turn up because of it.

I've been a fan for as long as I can remember. Since ~1984 when I was 5 years old. In Jr. High we'd take the bus on our lunch break and ambush Oilers players jaywalking across the Whitemud freeway back to the arena begging (and getting) autographs. I helped save the team in 1999-2000 when they were begging and bought season tickets with a friend. I worked for A-Channel from 1998-2001 when they had the rights to Oilers games. I worked with Gene Principe (when he was at A-Channel) every 3rd week when I was on the evening shift. I helped produce the TV series "Oil Change". It was a religion.

Two years ago I moved to Olympia, WA. So I was already excited about the expansion draft. Then the Oilers shit the bed again in the playoffs. I was furious. I can't express enough how mad I was. It was like I broke up with someone I'd been with for decades. Then my wife and I had a baby girl shortly after the playoffs, our first child, and... hockey took a back seat.

My priorities completely change

As a current Oilers/Kraken fan, how the hell did you manage to quit the Oilers I'm so jealous

As a former Oilers fan, I can say with absolute certainty, winning the draft doesn't mean you win hockey games.

This is the attitude I'm here for. Who's getting 2025 Stanley Cup Champ tattoos with me?

As a Caps fan, this makes 2018 all the sweeter. Beating a team that, gasp, had a terrible organization style and culture behind all the seasonal success.

Two things can be true. Vegas fleeced the league in the expansion draft by making a bunch of deals day of the draft and we are taking out shot at fleecing the league by taking a bunch of expiring contracts that can be flipped via the deadline.

The Kraken are following the Mariners plan. Why risk your high draft picks by actually having a good season!

Looks like Vegas will lose out on the awards they give out to the team with the most cap space AND the most draft capital at the end of the season. Not only that, but Vegas will even have less of an off-season to prepare for next season!

Yeah, Seattle is sitting pretty. I’m glad we haven’t sold our souls, or anything else for that matter, to win RIGHT now. So Vegas has strung together winning seasons for their first few seasons… flash in the pan.

How much of their prospect pool was traded away to be over the cap-limit when their Dadanov to ANH trade didn’t go through b/c they didn’t do their due diligence.

Love the optimism, and admittedly I haven't been following the last couple months of NHL, but looking at the standings it looks like Vegas still has a winning record and is probably on track for the playoffs. And, they made the finals in their first year. So it seems their approach works. What am I missing?

i’d rather compete immediately than have a ton of draft picks. most of those draft picks will be players that don’t even see the ice. the nhl draft tends to be a lot more shot in the dark once you pass the first 10-15 picks. i like the 2nds but maybe if we got more 1st rounders i’d be a little more optimistic. 3/4th rounders are pretty much just blindfolded shots at a dart board.. but i’d like to see them prove me wrong

They didn’t though, they lost to the Caps

Isn’t the goal to get to a Stanley Cup final either way? I’d much rather have had the run Vegas had. If we get there, great, but let’s not pretend they’re in a bad spot

This is a marathon, not a sprint
