5.0 out of 5 stars Love This Kettle Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2016 Color: SilverStyle: HarpwellVerified Purchase WOW! I had no idea there was so much to say about tea kettles, but I got an "eye/ear"-full while researching this simple product. First of all I didn't want to pay $40+ for a kettle to boil water. Also, I'm not really a coffee afficionada who needs water boiled in glass at a particular temperature. All of this led me to purchase the 2-Quart Mr. Coffee Harpwell Whistling Tea Kettle from Maslow's Mountain. I paid full price for this product and I usually wait at least a month before commenting, so if anything changes with my satisfaction of this tea kettle, I'll update my review. After one use here is why I have nothing negative to say about this product:

  1. Customer Service was fantastic right from the start. Maslow's Mountain followed delivery of the kettle right down to my doorstep, just in case I missed USP or my package was stolen. They assured me of their care in making sure I was a satisfied customer. I think they've succeeded.
  2. The product is as pictured (minus the coffee mug)--beautiful, shiny, with a nice modern design.
  3. The product insert was clear and straight to the point, with no special care instructions. Pre-wash the pot in hot, soapy water, rinse, dry, put water in the kettle, and boil.
  4. The whistle is perfect, going from soft to piercingly loud for when you're distracted or practically out of the house. A must!
  5. Beautiful ergonomic design; well balanced and looks lovely on my black stove.
  6. The kettle is a medium weight stainless steel with hard plastic handle which was comfortable to handle without a mitt. However, if you left it on the stove too long, it might get hot.
  7. All the closures fit tightly, important for whistling, but not too tight for easy removal for cleaning or filling. Or, fill from the spout.
  8. I like the easy-open mechanism on the handle for opening the spout. And, it stays open until you close it again (or not).

The perfect kettle for me! I hope this review helped you to make your kettle-decision a little easier. Read more 46 people found this helpful Helpful

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice kettle. Good design! Great price! Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2019 Color: SilverStyle: HarpwellVerified Purchase I was hesitant to order this kettle because of the price. But the positives outweigh the negatives. Positives - Well designed. The kettle is seamless, so there is no bottom seam to separate or rust! The kettle bottom is a little wider, so one can use a larger flame or burner to heat water faster. The handle is some kind of high density plastic, so you do not need a pot holder to handle the kettle after heating water. It also utilizes one hand operation - the lever under the handle opens the spout and there a button on the top of the handle that closes the spout, all without moving your hand. The lid is is the same material as the handle and can be popped off easily with your fingers as you grasp the handle from the top. A big positive is a very nicely designed kettle for under $20! Negatives - The stainless steel seems a little thin and therefore might dent easily, but this also makes it lighter weight and easier to handle. The kettle is a polished steel, not brushed, and it seems it has darkened slightly after a few weeks use. The bottom, however, has not discolored at all, even after daily use on a gas flame for several weeks. I have wiped the outside with warm soapy water to clean. I do not use anything that might scratch the steel as I suspect the polished steel might show scratches easily. 14 people found this helpful Helpful

1.0 out of 5 stars So disappointing Reviewed in the United States on January 26, 2016 Color: SilverStyle: HarpwellVerified Purchase The handle melted within a week of using this kettle. It is also starting to rust after less than a month. So much for thinking I was actually purchasing a quality tea kettle. 77 people found this helpful Helpful

2.0 out of 5 stars Rusted in fewer than 10 uses. Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2019 Color: Stainless SteelStyle: SteamlineVerified Purchase This kettle lasted fewer than 10 uses before rusting on the inside. I only ever use it to make a single cup of tea for myself. I put in some water, boil it, pour what I need, and dump the rest. Since the kettle is still hot when I empty it out, it dries out very quickly when I put it back on the stove. I would think these are ideal conditions for preventing rust. Yet just the other day I noticed a rust spot on the inside. I can't recommend purchasing this product. I give it 2 stars because the trigger for opening the spout worked fine and was nice to have. 10 people found this helpful Helpful

1.0 out of 5 stars UPDATE: 2 months. [Attractive, but disappointing in both materials and functions] Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2020 Color: SilverStyle: HarpwellVerified Purchase UPDATE after two months: I put the kettle on and received a phone call. It did not whistle. It boiled dry--something that has happened before with other kettles, with no harm done. THIS KETTLE: the plastic top part of the lid melted onto the body and cannot be removed. The metal bottom part of the lid has apparently, dropped into the kettle (to judge by rattling of large metallic object inside).

Now-useless kettle went into the trash. At $19.49, that's $9.75/month for its useful life.

original review:

I like the looks of this kettle. You could do much worse, design-wise, for the money.

But: it is lightweight, thin metal. The whistle is feeble--not enough to let me know it's ready, if I'm in the other room (which is the whole point of having a teakettle). The handle gets hot--you need a dishtowel or hotbed. The lid is hard to take off--yet it has twice (in two weeks) fallen off while pouring, giving my hand a blast of steam! I doubt it will last anything like the 30 years the one it replaced lasted. But, for a semi-disposable item, good (I hope) for a couple of years' service, it's OK. 1.0 out of 5 stars Handle gets too hot to hold Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2020 Color: Stainless SteelStyle: SteamlineVerified Purchase The plastic handle gets too hot to hold. I made sure the fill cap was on tight so steam was not leaking from there. I had to use a dishtowel to pick it up. I didn't even leave it on the stove for too long. I went to take it off the stove as the first sound of the whistle, but it was already too hot. It wasn't a little bit hot either. The handle was so hot that if I gripped and held it long enough to pour the water for tea, there would be a real risk of me dropping it. That's how hot it was. I had to return it. 7 people found this helpful Helpful
