4.0 out of 5 stars UPDATE: Looks nice - but doesn't seem to work Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2022 Verified Purchase I wouldn't recommend this Galileo Thermometer. I had a similar one from years ago, that was much larger and the glass bulbs inside would actually change according to varying temperatures. I wanted a smaller version for my desk, and so I purchased this Lily's thermometer.

I live in New England where temperatures can vary between 5 degrees to 65 degrees within 6 hours. Even my house thermostat fluctuates between a daytime and nighttime temperature reading.

This thermometer's bulbs have not moved at all in the few months I have owned it. It just occurred to me though, that they cannot move because the glass tube appears to be too narrow for the bulbs to slide past one another. That being said, even the lower bulbs never drop to the bottom. It might have happened once since I have owned it, but I was probably at work. I am not about to scientifically study what the bulbs should be doing at this point in my life.

UPDATE: This thermometer now seems to work. The bulbs are moving around some, so i have updated my review. Love the look of this, and nice quality too. Read more Helpful

1.0 out of 5 stars Toxic liquid! Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2021 Verified Purchase Gorgeous, gifted and had been loved this for 1.5 years - until it broke and we found out the liquid is absolutely not as advertised, but highly corossive. The liquid stripped fingernail polish right off and took the finish right off the wood cabinets and flooring, turning into a very costly mistake. Avoid! One person found this helpful Helpful

5.0 out of 5 stars This is amazing! Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2021 Verified Purchase I got this as a gift for my parents. My dad is super nerdy and my mom is an artist. I figured this would be a perfect combination of science (the way it works) and aesthetic (the way it looks). It does just that!

My dad instantly started geeking out over how it works ("Did you know there's only a 6 gram difference between the fluids?!") and my mom adored the beautiful colors and aesthetic design.

Very, very happy with this! One person found this helpful Helpful

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2022 Verified Purchase My son-in-law was always looking and playing with a Galileo thermometer we’ve had for almost 40 years. This was a Christmas gift for him and he loves it! I was so impressed with the quality as it mimics ours which is high quality and was expensive “back in the day”. It was very well packaged and arrived in a timely manner during the holidays. It meant a lot to give to our one-in-a-million son-in-law such a nice appreciated present. Would definitely purchase again from this vendor. Helpful

5.0 out of 5 stars Great conversation piece Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2020 Verified Purchase I received this as a hostess gift and I absolutely loved it! I purchased 3 more to give to others as hostess gifts and one for my father in law, as it is really difficult to buy gifts for 85 year olds that have everything, I bet they don't have a Galileo thermometer! and now something interesting to show to others. Great gift for the money 2 people found this helpful Helpful

5.0 out of 5 stars Fragile Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2020 Verified Purchase I like this as a decoration, but can't seem to keep one. I have broken 3 (and one from a different vendor, I think was poorly packed and arrived shattered). And, when it breaks the liquid really stinks; hard to get rid of. 3 people found this helpful Helpful

5.0 out of 5 stars Great piece of conversation Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2016 Verified Purchase Great product, just as described. The thermometer is 14" tall and is made of glass. It's pretty big, about two inches in diameter. The base is larger but it's obviously still unstable if you knock it over. Product package is great too, it was SUPER well wrapped.

Here's how to read the temperature on the thermometer:

To read a Galileo thermometer, look at the lowest hanging bubble in the middle of the tube—the one that is not entirely sunk, nor entirely floating at the top. This bubble is in equilibrium with the surrounding liquid, and its tag will tell the current temperature. 23 people found this helpful Helpful
