The TREASURY (not a central bank) to issue a PRIVATE digital currency to replace dollar. anyone who has read Creature from Jekyl Island knows why it’s important the treasury issue instead of the Fed. Might we be witnessing a transfer of power from central bank back to the people? With consideration.

No. A government issued digital currency is about control. Not liberation.
The entire point of the book was the solution is to have the treasury once again issue money for the first time in over 100 years.
The FED would not be able to disallow certain purchases. The Federal Government on the other hand can and will prevent people from making purchases they don’t agree with. It’s all about control!!
No - that’s not true. We have been under the monetary system of the Federal Reserve for 100 years. Why do you think they wouldn’t put limits on their currency? Do You think a CBDC is preferable to a private coin issued by the treasury?
Why else would they want the CBDC programmable? You have to much faith in the Government and the people in it.
I read the book, but returning to the Constitutional model, as founded, is the last thing YellenTheFelon will permit. The CBDCs will be frightening in how they exert control over the individual.

This is not a CBDC. Which is the entire point of this post. This is a bill being proposed - Yellen would presumably not like this bill bc it takes power away from the central banks. Yellen won’t be in power forever.
What makes you think the government wants to do this? At what point in your life has either party shown fiscal responsibility. At what point have they ever cut spending in order to reduce debt? If they actually wanted to free monetary system they would simply allow cryptos to go unregulated or even better put the dollar back in a gold standard.
Again. I realize this is just a proposal. I just don’t think the government is going to be giving the people back their monetary freedom anytime soon. And anything sold to you as such, should be met with staunch skepticism.
I’m not sure that would make any difference at this point. The central bank isn’t going to give power back to the treasury. And even if it did, it would only be on terms that the central bank agreed with. Unless the treasury is willing to return to a gold standard digital currency, the point is irrelevant.
That’s why this is potentially a big deal. If the treasury begins issuing money again, it takes power from the Fed - it doesn’t matter if the Fed wants to give it up
Imagine a treasury issued digital dollar backed by gold
Also worth noting this is only still being proposed
Yeah I’m not opposed to the idea at all. But the government is moving in the polar opposite direction.
