Need advice for soloing against Kunkka

I had a few games recently where I soloed against a Kunkka mid. What's the best way to lane against with with short range or melee range heroes. If I try to stay back to avoid TideBringer, he can just keep denying and save it for when I come up to last hit. I think that investing in a RoR at the start might be the best choice...?
