Is commuting really that bad?

I'm currently weighing the pros/cons at all the destination airlines and some of the only real cons at some of them are their domiciles are places I don't wanna live, DAL for example. It would obviously be a substantial pay bump now and down the road but is it worth that added challenges that come with commuting multiple times a month? Everyone I talk to makes it seem like commuting is just soul-sucking and I don't want to leave something I enjoy prematurely
