Review:
This book had such a grip on me back when it was first releasing chapters, and I was honestly so proud of myself for calling Sadie’s betrayal. It’s a decent plot twist, but much like Queen B, Book 2, it’s not at all unexpected for her to be the twist villain. The plot of this book is honestly a slog at some points, and it’s a little too slow paced for me. I mean, it takes until Chapter 12 for M/C to get to kiss Gabe for the first time. That’s insane compared to other books with slow burn LI’s! Then you get to hook up with him a few chapters later…after nearly being shot. What a weird premise for a hook up scene lmao. Speaking of hook-ups, this book’s one off scenes with Lina, Tyler, Will, and Marcus are all really good! I really loved being able to have these extra scenes and still have a LI to pursue beyond them. This book was also the first GOC book to have a distinct, clear option for male M/C to choose whether to top or bottom if you’re in a sex scene with a guy, and I really, really appreciate that. Gabe is a good LI, and I like the slow burn with him, but I wish it didn’t take so long to kick off. Aislinn is so sweet, and for those who romanced her, I’m glad y’all got more kisses with her lol. Martin as a twist villain is just stupid. He just doesn’t fit the bill, at all, and it felt like a desperate attempt at sequel bait, which they already had in the form of the threat of Sadie. Why shove Martin in? I hope Book 2 continues the same positives of Book 1, and I hope that Beau is a hook-up option. I also hope that I get more time and kisses with Gabe in Book 2, and that the story isn’t boring. All in all, I really enjoyed this book, despite it feeling like a detective book more than a lawyer book at times, and feeling a little too sluggish at times. I simply can’t wait for Book 2!
