Problems with config setup
Hello, I am trying to set up wireguard on a VPS. Here are my configs for the server and the client. I don't have any stuff working on port 443 and I have checked connectivity with my PC using netcat.
# Client
[Interface]
PrivateKey = ***
Address = 10.0.0.2/24
[Peer]
PublicKey = ***
AllowedIPs = 0.0.0.0/0
Endpoint = <MY_SERVER_EXTERNAL_IP>:443
# Server
[Interface]
Address = 10.0.0.1/24
PrivateKey = ***
ListenPort = 443
[Peer]
PublicKey = ***
AllowedIPs = 10.0.0.2/32
When I am trying to connect from my windows 10 client I am seeing these messages in logs. https://imgur.com/a/iFK9bhB. Can someone point out the issue?

any particular reason you are using 443? port 443 is for https traffic which is tcp while wireguard is udp can you try with the default wg port and see if the same thing happens??
I am using 443 because in my school ports other than 443 and 80 are blocked completely. I just tried using 51820 port and it still won't connect. Btw I don't know if it makes sense but after modifying the server's config file(/etc/wireguard/wg0.conf) I am doing
systemctl restart wg-quick@wg0. Idk if I need to do something else to apply changes.im not sure if that will work with the 80 and 443 tcp ports, especially if you are using the public ip of your school to connect and they are already serving stuff over http/s
as per the systemctl restart it depends, if you had the service enabled and then edited the file and restart the service your changes are overwritten with the old config from when it was enabled
in a nutshell enable the service only when you have finished making changed to your config
Maybe there are some specific steps I need to do because I am using google cloud?
Did you open a firewall port? GCP will have 80/443 open with their default template - but that’s TCP and Wireguard is UDP.
