[Spoiler] Is Ron's voice an affectation?

Beth drops his voice's "manly guy" attitude in the final couple episodes when talking to Willy at one point and it sounded almost like it was on purpose. Like it was implying "he really sounds like this, and is trying too hard".

It's my headcanon regardless but anybody know if it was on purpose? It makes his face easier to imagine tbh, I can't imagine a face for his usual voice but even much more feminine I could easily come up with one for this one.
