A Ranger Redesign for a More Natural Martial

Homebrew

It's far from done, but I wanted to get some eyes on it to see if the thematic through line is coming across right. I haven't done any real balancing figuring it's much easier to design it over powered to make sure I have the fantasy captured and then trim the muscle so to speak.

It is currently just the core class with scraps of the subclasses at the bottom. It is also a full martial base. I do intend to make a half caster Subclass for it, but haven't gotten there yet.

Core tenants:

  1. The ranger is the most adaptable class. They have a variety of options as well as the ability to draw on new experiences to get the upper hand.

  2. The ranger is in tune with nature by observation and/or use, not by magic. While some rangers may be more inclined towards druidic magic, it is not the source of their abilities. Some rangers even act against nature being woodsman trying to tame the wilderness.

  3. The ranger's utility role is filled slightly through his skills, a strong base knowledge of nature, but mainly through his subclass features which determine his specialized field.
