I like how Jeremy at build a soil puts it. You can go to the store and get a Stoffers brand lasagna (store bought soil) and make a dinner with it and you’ll get full. But have you ever had a Nonnas lasagna? One that she’s been making for generations and has dialed it in perfectly to fit her families tastes? It’s the best meal you’ll ever have. (Or take any store bought item and compare it with a well executed homemade dish). Now that being said, if you’re inept in a kitchen that frozen lasagna might be the best you can get. I believe though, with a little research and some testing you could make a soil blend better than most premixed you can find at the store. That being said, if you’re not into mixing your own the Build a Soil blend and their amendment are solid. Roots organics from aurora innovations also makes a good soil mix (I also like their terp tea line for compost teas). Fox farm is fine too.

I have been using Fox Farm Happy Frog soil, I see a number of people using their Ocean Farms soil. Which is better.

I use coco fiber 10lb and then mix in a quarter of a bag of ocean forest, happy frog, and then perlite. Works for about 2 weeks of food for potting up. Works like a champ. Then I use fox farms feeding supplements during flower and bud factor x And overdrive to finish up.

The difference between happy frog and ocean forest .

Potting Soils are formulated with earthworm castings, bat guano, peat moss and aged forest products, and provide an ideal environment for container gardens.

There are a few distinct differences between these two products. Ocean Forest® is a premium mix that contains ocean-going ingredients such as kelp, crab meal and shrimp meal. Happy Frog® Potting Soil is an economical alternative that includes humic acids and beneficial microbes.
