Can I Play?

Straight up, im a Nintendo gamer through and through. I've never played a Dark Souls game even though I plan to go back and play through them soon as one of my best friends suggested them to me because I love super challenging games like Megaman and games that have a ton of things to do in them like BoTW. Is this a good place to start or should I go back and play the others first?
