i am afraid.
i am afraid of a lot of things.
nameless things,
faceless things.
skip of a beat,
white as a sheet,
twisted, torn and frayed.
sure, they do slither and slink,
but not in the places you'd think.
they gorge on words unsaid,
ooze from thoughts unsound.
a piercing cry,
my throat is so dry,
ripples and folds of velvet night,
heady and potent,
sleep tight.
brittle as bone,
bark of roan,
didn't you know you were always alone?
crackles of menace in sucrose smiles,
pretty bows atop flesh in piles.
if i promise i'll die, will you sing me a lullaby?
armed with whispers as blades,
shards of putrid hate,
they croon, murmur and mewl,
delicately sealing your fate.
swollen moon,
cicadas' boon,
never gone; forever too soon.
needle and thread,
taut lines from your own head,
a fable, a narrative:
a siren's sweet song of the long undead.
they build their nests in bated breath,
blankets of silence, tension's heat in the hearth.
you cannot escape them,
only fools try.
are you afraid?
i'm fucking terrified.
