For the Outer Wilds + hypnospace-

La Mulana is self titled as an "action archeological ruins exploration game" but I've also seen it compared to Myst/Outer Wilds + Indiana Jones metroidvania with the difficulty tuned up to 11.

Its a strangley underrated game since I really feel like if youre into mystery puzzle games, the La Mulana series seriously delivers as some of the best games out there for those types of players.

Here's a brief overview of the gameplay for those who don't know about it-

You'll be exploring mysterious ruins, gathering information in the form of cryptic hints (all which tie into the game's lore) to solve wild puzzles and progress further. It's a true archeology game where you'll be poring over 100s of notes/screenshots, interpreting mysterious myths, and dealing with deadly traps and cosmic entities.  The huge ruins are intricately designed like one giant puzzle box to unravel over a staggering 60+ hrs of gameplay if you're using minimal hints.

Another cool aspect is how the ruins are filled with references to real world mythologies which tie into the plot and puzzles. I even managed to solve a few puzzles because I knew the myth the puzzle was themed around! (You don't need outside knowledge to figure then out tho)

It's also has fun combat and wild bossfights which makes it a little difficult to classify since it combines elements from so many different genres.

I also can't not mention the amazing soundtrack. Every single song is a banger.

La Mulana's reputation as a hard game is not unwarrented though- Its really really tough.  You have take manual notes or screenshots of everything you read in order to have a chance at figuring out the later puzzles without a guide so know what you're getting into.  But if you get into it, it will consume you and you'll lie awake at night thinking through your next steps in exploring the ruins.

I've played tons of mystery puzzle games including Outer Wilds, Fez, Obra Dinn, myst series, and the Witness but La Mulana tops all of these by a mile imo.  There's a certain way it engages the player that is just unlike anything else.

TLDR- it's a cryptic puzzle Metroidvania with deep exploration and a great soundtrack.

You may also enjoy Return of the Obra Dinn

On a surface level this game does not look like something I would dig but your description has me thinking twice, sounds really interesting!

Its pretty much Outer Wilds on steroids in the form of a 2d action exploration game.
