Weapons aren't alive.. if an inanimate object eats a devil fruit, is the fruit off the table forever? Can a devil fruit weapon be killed?
Also, can an inanimate object awaken its fruit?

Well the devil fruits seem to have entities living in them. So once the vessel is not usable I assume that that entity would move to the closest fruit. But we won’t know till we meet vegapunk.
If Vegapunk even gives that information out..
So you think Funkfreed or that dog cannon who's name I don't remember etc could be broken/damaged to the point that the fruit would abandon it?
Happened with Caesars pet right?
Zoans are sentient and have a will of their own to not be captured it seems like they're special living things.
I think for instance the Hito Hito saw Chopper and was like hey reindeer boy eat me over here. Meanwhile the Leopard fruit was like oh that Lucci he's a cold blooded killer. I like that guy.
I figure the objects only keep the fruit alive as long as the devil fruit wants to be around then moves on.

I like that theory, it doesn't feel like it'd be very easy to "kill" a zoan that paired up with an inanimate object, especially with the increased durability.. but yeah I agree the fruit might just get tired of being that kind of weapon or just be ready to move on in general. Maybe the owner of the weapon could even piss the fruit off to the point the fruit it would rather just be a fruit again.
Yeah it seemed like the only good thing Spandem had going for him was he actually took care of his elephant sword and it was loyal to him.

Ah wait Caesar killed [edit: Smiley, not Shinokuni] Shinokuni with his candy didn't he? Poison would be a solid way to kill a devil fruit weapon I guess.
Shinokuni was the gas released when he died, smiley was the zoan that resulted from H2S "eating" the axotl fruit.
It's kind of peculiar that poison was able to kill a zoan that was merged with poison to begin with.

The reason it's possible with Zoan Fruits is because they have souls. Hence it brings the object to life. Meaning you can kill it.
