The mafia

You know why things are weird? The US is run by the mafia still.

They control the ports through labor unions. Probably why there’s supply chain disruptions.

Probably why the only people to protest were the truckers and God bless them.

Ever see Casino? They straight up run Las Vegas. If they do that there they can do it anywhere.

If they have such a tight grasp on so many things they can probably impose their will abroad.

They don’t want a populist uprising. They want control. It’s why they hated Trump.

I base this on my own observations. Like seeing Elon getting slighted by this administration or the corruption in my city which turned everyone into covid freaks. I have to look into this but I heard Biden got into politics with help from the mob. His dad ran a car dealership and those people are crooks half the time.

Not a mystical force. Just the brute force of the mob. Please clap.

I was thinking about this recently. You are correct, the mafia runs everything, however, it is a different mafia.

The govt, and specifically democrats realized what a gold mine the mafia had its hands on.

Pay the unions. Pay themselves in kickbacks.

Give out contracts, receive kickbacks in the firm of contributions (housing, defense, oil, military, voting services, medical, you name it, kickbacks are involved)

The only change now is the Don, the capos, and the soldiers. Same game, new players.

Well it makes more sense once you’ve read The Godfather. The movie hits on it too, but you get the full scope both visual and via the book. The idea is they start out in the mafia, but the 2nd and 3rd generation can become doctors, lawyers, and maybe event be President one day, essentially leveling up in a legitimate way. Being able to discard the old way and have lift off in a legitimate way would allow for less stress that comes with a life of crime.

From the Italian perspective it had a lot to do with being discriminated against economically in building standing in America. The mafia developed its own system as nothing would be given to the Italians. There’s a romanticism that goes with The Godfather that touches on the plight of Italian Americans, and by extension other immigrants who find themselves ‘off the boat.’

Where does leaving crime in the past end? The romanticism in the fictional Godfather to what has played out today leaves some discrepancy.

Those who are mafia today more so have blended in with society, yet kept up the crime cycle in a more sophisticated, less visible manner. To simplify, think OP about how pac man gobbles up its pieces. The mafia/pacman have just continued on.

To your point, yes the mafia run things currently. The mafia that had capo regimes sending out soldiers to collect a gambling debt can now just push through false invoices through a hospital, business, construction site, or government program and siphon money without getting their hands dirty.

So the 3rd movie shows how the gangsters kind of leveled up?

If cooperation like that leads to a better society well then I guess I am for it.

But

I am just very jaded because I was brought up thinking competition was how the world worked and to be your own individual person. I feel like these ideas conflict with each other and how we ended up where we are now.

I don’t like this secrecy and manipulation of the system. I can’t help but feel it is an attack on the individual.
