I hope Baghdad will never turn to dubai architecture wise

Culture

We need revive old Baghdad in future. New Muthanabbi looks so beautiful. Its give me One Thousand and One Nights vibes. Al Rasheed Street should be next target for renovation. We should expand this style beyond. Also I hope there is more mesopotamia inspired building and gardens in future. We should not make this historic city another copy past of typical Capitalist city. It would be big shame.

100% agree , we are destroying the beautiful architecture and culture in the name of modernity and replacing it with impractical ugly generic glass towers

Iraq used to produce some of the best Architects in the world. I hope the new generations graduating from the Iraqi architecture and engineering colleges are up to that standard or even better.

That looks very cool, looks kind of like a Borg cube.

Yes it does. It reminds me of the Opus by Zaha Hadid.

Hopefully it will look as good once constructed.

I agree, but you first you need a government, and a government who is willing to do so.

I'm in dubai right now and it's very bland and empty. Empty as in it feels it doesn't have a soul.

I was born and raised in Dubai and that’s actually a huge misconception , people stick to the touristy areas and then complain about a soul less city , if you’re still here DM me and I can recommend some good authentic places

Hey u/bootleking miss you man. and I totally agree with you, Dubai had the chance to do something otherworldly that would reflect their culture instead they settled for the same gray soulless caricature of a modern city.

I’m also against modern architecture in a historically integral city like Baghdad, but I’m sure it can work. Baghdad is a massive city, it has almost reached maximum size according to regional borders, so it’ll be a little costly and unmaintainable for it to expand further outwards. I’m assuming economic district plans from the Early 2000s will be implemented around some central areas in Baghdad, where they’ll focus on modern offices mostly.
