How to play Metroid Prime Trilogy using Dolphin VR with Touch Controllers for aiming - Also works for other games

Since I got the quest 2 and my sons new PC, I have been dying to play Metroid Prime Trilogy in VR with the Touch Controls for aiming. Issue is, I couldn't find too many sources for how to get this going. Finally I found a couple and wanted to share them with you. So to get this going:

1- Make sure you have the Oculus software for your PC and Airlink working. Virtual Desktop will also work.

2- Make sure you have Steam and Steam VR

3- Follow this man's video. Not the greatest video, but the content is gold.

Other tweaks to this video or recommendations I found work well:

1- In Dolphin VR, go to Options - Configure - Advanced Tab and click Enable CPU Clock Override and keep it at 100%. That should keep it running stable.

2- In Dolphin VR, click on the Graphics Icon (Or Options - Graphics). Under Basic, change Backend from OpenGL to Direct 3D 11. That should also give you better performance.

3- While I started out with the culling options showed in that video, I got a crash on the escape sequence for Metroid Prime 1. I think that may be due to a bad culling code there. So I switched over to this instead. Just copy this users pastebin into the section where the video shows the "Edit Config", instead of the config the youtuber tells you.

If you are still crashing in that section, just turn cheats off (Options - Configure - General Tab) and make it past the escape and get to your next save point. Save. Close out and turn the cheats back on.

4- What the YouTube video doesn't tell you is that you need to make sure Steam is open before launching dolphinVR. If you don't do this. SteamVR will launch, but you may have problems getting the Touch Controllers to work. I found this out the hard way.

5- If you get a crash at any point, make sure to fully close out of DolphinVR, Steam and Steam VR. Launch Steam first, then launch Dolphin VR. A message will come up saying SteamVR crashed last time on your PC screen. It will ask you if you want to try again. Hit yes and your controllers should work again. Took me a while to figure that out after I had the crashes mentioned above.

Hopefully this helps everyone.

If you want to play other games, you basically just need to find the correct culling codes and apply them. The correct Culling codes can be found here:

There are many great games to play in VR. I haven't tried Mario Galaxy yet, but heard it's awesome in VR. I have tried HOTD 2 and while not as great as I hoped with using the touch aiming, it's not bad. It's just not point and shoot since this is back boned on the Wiimote technology and all.

With all this said, the purpose of this post is to get more knowledge out about DolphinVR and to hope to get either the original dev or the Dolphin Dev team to bring back a focus on Dolphin in VR. There is a lot of work still to be done for it, and there are A LOT of great games that can be played in the system. Everything from N64 to GC to Wii.

All you have to do is look at the success of RE4 and know how much potential a fully fledged version of DolphinVR would be.
